The weather in the sea could be very unpredictable and may lead to very rough waters and huge currents/waves that could very well sink the ship. Also storms could last for many days, making traveling very hard to get to shore to get supplies.

Traveling in during bad conditions inevitably creates a risk and depending on the location could even represent a threat to my life. There is always risks inherent in traveling or exploring but I would not needlessly exaggerate them.
