This is the face of the people who we do not learn about. The people who we are supposed to forget because they are "ancient history". This is the beauty of the culture that was destroyed by European hostility. El Maíz is something that is native to the Aztecs and the Mexica. The colors on the corn hold several symbolic meanings. Most importantly, those colors represent solidarity with indigenous people. White, red, yellow, and black are common colors with Indigenous groups in the Americas; it represents the cardinal points, seasons, stages in life, and so much more. Lastly, the power of the sun is shown here. This Aztec Calendar was what the Aztecs based their daily lives off of. It tells the story of creation, destruction, when to plant and harvest crops, astronomy, and so much more. Again, this is the history of Mexicanos and Chicanx. This tells of the history of the indigenous people, which is not taught in the our education system. Both gods were very powerful and their power inspires Chicanx to empower themselves in culture and education. While most people saw them as vigilantes, others saw them as heroes. They expressed the importance of getting an education and that Chicanx and Latinx people should not be restricted because of the color of their skin. Many Brown Berets were sent to prison for protesting and fighting the law that was built upon putting people of color down. We are not told of the importance of education, the beauty of the land we are trained to be afraid of, the struggle of those who fight for equal rights, and of those who protest the unlawful take over of indigenous lands. What Chicanx aim to do is break these stereotypes, break the chains of the oppressor, and to educate ourselves. Dia de los Muertos was created by the Aztecs to celebrate the life of the dead. It was an event which took place over two days. The Aztecs celebrated the life of the dead through art, music, dance, festivals, and so much more. When the Spanish took over, they banned this sacred day and refused to let the Aztecs celebrate it, and all other holidays as well. Only until recently in history did Dia de los Muertos become the holiday in which it was intended to be. After the Spanish banned this holiday, it died out and very few people celebrated it. If it was celebrated, it was done so in public. During the Chicano Movement, this holiday was brought back to life and was celebrated with huge festivals; something that had not been done in centuries. Chicanx stressed the importance of culture and knowing one's roots, and the roots of the Chicanx flowed through the Aztecs who celebrated this unique holiday.

They fought for farmer's rights and co-created the United Farm Worker's Union. Without this union, farmers today would continue to be oppressed by their employers, who viewed them as unintelligent and unimportant. The legacy of these two are expressed in Chicano art. Both men and women and an equal opportunity for an education. The idea of masculinity arrived with the Europeans, who saw women only as housemaids. With centuries of that idea being instilled on the people, women became to be seen as inferior to men. Through the Chicano Movement, it empowered women to receive an education and to break the Euro-Centric ideals. Along with the woman shown is the Aztec goddess of the earth, Coatlicue. She is seen as the creator of world, and is the mother of the gods who created the sun, moon, and stars. The Aztecs viewed women highly because of this goddess and many more.
