I would like to share with you a special project I’ve been leading for the past four years.

At Weizmann School in Rehovot, I teach a group of 5th grade Amirim (gifted) students English through songs by The Beatles.

The learning process is experiential and enriching — students acquire new vocabulary through music and stories from the 1960s. They explore the topic using guided questions, conduct research, and present their findings through creative tools like Canva and PowerPoint.

To conclude the year-long journey, I take the students to the Children’s Museum in Holon for an interactive exhibition about The Beatles. It’s always a meaningful, exciting experience — and a wonderful way to learn English.

I truly recommend this project and wish you the best of luck with your teaching.

On May 8, Zurim High School in Hod HaSharon transformed into a bustling international terminal as students boarded a one-of-a-kind educational experience: a flight to London—without ever leaving campus!

The event, titled “English Day – Flight to London”, was designed to give students an immersive and fun way to learn English while exploring British culture. From check-in to in-flight service and sightseeing in London, every detail was crafted to feel like a real journey.

Check-In and Boarding:

Students began their day by checking in at the Zurim Airlines counter. Each received a boarding pass with their name, seat number, and gate. The “terminal” was decorated with British flags, suitcases, and realistic signs in English. As passengers passed through check-in, they were greeted by staff at the boarding gate, where flight attendants guided them to their seats.

In-Flight Experience:

Onboard announcements by the "pilot" welcomed the passengers and set the tone for the flight. Students were treated to refreshments served from a real food trolley—including cookies and drinks. An in-flight Zurim Observer Newspaper with British humor gave everyone a good laugh while reinforcing reading skills.

Duty-Free Zone:

The Duty-Free shop was a hit! Students “purchased” London-themed ceramic souvenirs, cookies spelling out “London,” and even tested perfumes at the fragrance station. The area was decorated with SALE signs and branded shopping bags to make the experience feel authentic.

Cultural Stop in London:

After landing, students enjoyed outdoor activity stations, including photo booths with Royal Guards, themed word searches, and fun frames for English Day selfies. Inside, presentations and Kahoot quizzes brought famous London landmarks and British music to life. Students sang along to British pop hits in a lively karaoke session that blended fun with language practice.

Learning Goals:

The event combined reading, speaking, and listening skills with exposure to cultural knowledge. Vocabulary related to travel, food, and British landmarks was introduced in a hands-on and engaging way, making English come alive outside the classroom.

At Ofek Elementary School in Ramla, English teacher Varieh leads a writing project with her wonderful students at the end of each unit.

In the Cool textbook, they recently learned about Staying Healthy. As part of their practice, the students wrote about My Favorite Meal—describing a meal they love to prepare at home with their families. They expanded their vocabulary and illustrated their writing with drawings that matched their descriptions.

This engaging activity helps students see that English is an essential part of everyday life.

A big thank you to Principal Dorit Nevo and counselor Etti Or for their encouragement and support!
