Why is school important?

To me, school is the most important part of my life right now. School paves the way for a successful life in the U.S. since the education pipeline from high school to college can determine whether or not you get a good job. School is really important for making friends, and finding people who are like you and make you feel wanted. School also provides a lot of people with creative outlets of all kinds and is a place where you can figure out what you want to do with your life. For me, school also provides a lot of validation that I am as smart or as creative as people say I am or as I think I am. Getting good grades is important to me and getting all A’s makes me feel smart.

How has media/technology impacted your life?

Technology and media have genuinely made me very happy, but also insecure and depressed. Technology has provided me with 24/7 communication with my friends whenever I need them which makes me feel like I’m never alone anymore. Technology and social media have allowed me to inform myself on important issues and form my own opinion, I’ve been able to form a strong moral compass. Technology has impacted my life by providing me with music books and any other type of media that gives me an escape from life whenever I'm stressed out which is a pretty good coping method in my opinion. On the downside, social media has made me discover things to be insecure about that I didn’t even know existed. Seeing models and pretty girls on Instagram or TikTok makes me feel less than and sometimes I get sad. Social media has impacted my life by helping to form a large portion of my personality including my sense of humor and the type of books and movies I like.

How has religion played a role in your life?

Religion has made me incredibly aware of absolutely everything I do. When I was younger, I was so scared of going to hell that I made my mom wake up at 7 am every Sunday to take me to church. She thought I was gonna be a nun when I grew up. Religion made me paranoid when I was little, but now that I’m older I don’t let something like God get in the way of me living my life. I think about religion a lot since most of my family is pretty religious. I like to think that religion isn’t what formed my moral compass and that I didn’t base all my beliefs on a book of stories. Not to say that some of those stories don't hold truth behind them, but I try to view the bible as teachings of morals and life lessons, like a fairytale. That goes for any religious text.

What does success mean to you?

Success to me means being satisfied with your life, being happy. When I get older I want to be successful the same way my parents are. My dad is retired, so he spends his days reading books and investing in new companies. But my mom loves her job, she loves her coworkers and her boss. So thats how I view success, doing what you love surrounded by the people you love. I want to get a good job, one that makes me feel like I’ve affected the world in someway, even if it’s small. I want to feel like I’ve done something with my brain, that I’ve made myself smarter, more creative. That’s what success is to me.

What is the most important “thing” in your life? Why?

The most important thing in my life is my friends, they keep me sane. My friends are really important to me because they always make me want to be my best self for them. My friends make me laugh and distract me from my brain because my brain doesn’t really like me. So when I’m freaking out about something stupid like a test or a dance they make me laugh and I stop thinking about it. A big part of who I am is also that I’m a good friend myself, I love to help my friends and always try to help them talk through their problems.

I have a lot of hobbies! I'm in four clubs, French National Honors Society, Book Club, Art Club, and Creative Writing Club. I make a lot of art in my free time, I paint, sketch, and draw digitally too. I also write a lot of poetry in my free time since I'm in creative writing club. I also spend a lot of time reading books since I love to read more than almost anything in the world. I read a lot of any genre but mostly romance or horror. I also spend a lot of time doing French homework so I can maintain an A in French.
