I loved that there were a variety of poems (haiku, free verse, couplets etc.) but the story was continuous. His love and passion for his family and his music was so apparent; I could feel it jump off the pages. As a CLT we have discussed doing novels in verse next year to try and make the poetry unit more impactful. Thank you Sally, I love making notebook pages.

I also made myself keep my reflections simple -- to avoid my over-thinking tendencies. This was fun!


I so enjoyed how this book is a kind-hearted and playful invitation to all students to explore another's world likely different from their own.

Because Cindy created and applied actual teaching strategies, I though I would try something similar. I tried to highlight figurative language and explain it in my note book page. I feel like any student could be successful using a notebook page like this, but also an online version could be created like Cheryl di with hers.

I also learned from Lisa’s page to add examples of literary devices. I find that I am reading the book for the pure enjoyment of it and then going back to write notes.
