In this chapter everyone judges Despereaux because he has big ears, he was smaller than any other mouse, and that he was born with his eyes open. But the most odd thing about Despereaux was that he was not interested in anything other mice were interested in. He did not hunt for crumbs but he always listened very closely to his surroundings. One day Despereaux heard the sweet sound of honey and he told his brothers and sisters. One of his brothers said ¨You don´t hear honey. You smell honey.¨. Despereaux´s mother and father told him to go and find some crumbs.
