Disconnection and Isolation

Isolation is a state of disconnection, it usually manifests itself in different forms. It can be physical separation from others much like a lighthouse keeper or an an astronaut on a long voyage in space. And then we have social isolation, which describes the lack of "meaningful" interaction. This is usually experienced by people who suffer with social anxiety or even those living in remote villages. Perhaps the most profound of them all is emotional isolation.

Emotional isolation is where the individuals feel disconnected from others despite being around others physically. In some cases this might stem from childhood neglect or past trauma or even communication barriers that create a type of void between people. Isolation isn't always an external force; it can be a deep self-imposed state. In other cases, some people seek solitude within creative pursuits, using this time for self-reflection or even to simply escape the overwhelming cacophony of the world. However, prolonged isolation, regardless of its form, can have significant consequences.

On a mental health level, social isolation has previously been liked to a heightened risk of depression, anxiety, and even dementia. Us as humans are social creatures by nature, and scientifically the lack of interaction weakens cognitive function and the overall emotional well-being. Numerous studies have identified that social isolation can lead to changes in brain activity, specifically in the areas that are associated with emotional processing. Isolation can vastly exacerbate existing mental health conditions, creating a vigorously vicious cycle.

The physical effects of isolation are equally if not more concerning. Loneliness can deeply weaken the immune system. literally making isolated people more susceptible to infections and chronic illnesses. Such as heart disease and even a stroke. Social support plays a dire role in an individuals health outcomes. From simple offerings such as practical help with daily tasks like grocery shopping or cooking meals providing emotional encouragement during difficult times. Isolation can impede access to the vital support network, which leads to neglected health issues and overall poorer health.

Social skills development also flatlines in the absence of interaction. Children who experience all kinds of social isolation will most likely struggle to form friendships, and also struggle to interpret social cues, or even struggle with navigating complex social situations. The lack of practicing social skills can possibly hinder the development of essential social skills, disrupting their ability to form healthy relationships. Isolation can also affect our sense of identity and belonging. In my opinion a social connection is absolutely dire for shaping our self-perception; it virtually allows us to see ourselves reflected in the eyes of others and essentially build a sense of belonging. without this connection, isolated people may experience an overwhelming feeling of alienation, or even confusion about who they are, and inevitably struggle to find their place in the world.

As an actor, exploring the deep depths of isolation and its impacts and even the diverse perspectives helps me truly and wholeheartedly understand what my character is going through. I can gain a richer understanding of this complex human experience. This knowledge empowers me as an actor, or even simply empower us to create social connections. Ultimately foster a world where isolation is not a burden, but a choice we can make freely.

-SOURCES-

Social Isolation and Loneliness: https://www.cdc.gov/aging/publications/features/lonely-older-adults.html This Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) page details the health risks associated with social isolation and loneliness, including mental and physical health concerns.

The Impact of Social Isolation on Mental Health: https://www.healthdigest.com/872382/how-loneliness-actually-changes-your-brain/ Verywell Mind offers a comprehensive article exploring how social isolation can negatively impact mental health, including increased risk of depression, anxiety, and even suicidal thoughts.

Loneliness, isolation and mental health: https://www.rethink.org/news-and-stories/blogs/2024/02/loneliness-and-isolation-filling-an-important-gap/ Rethink Mental Illness discusses the link between loneliness, isolation, and mental health.

In the vast realm of the arts, understanding 'status is dire for breathing life into a character. It encompasses the power dynamics between relationships, and inevitably shaping behaviour motivations and even emotional responses.

Social Hierarchy and power dynamics: Status is usually linked with Social hierarchy, where individuals take different positions based on different factors, such as wealth, profession, social status, or even age. A high-status character might feel intitled and demand respect or obedience, while a low-status character might defer or display submissiveness. However status isn't necessarily always fixed, it can be fluid and situational. For example, A CEO in a boardroom might hold high status, but that exact same person interacting with a skilled doctor dealing with their health might be in a lower-status position.

Non-Verbal Communication Cues: Status is commonly communicated though non-verbal cues, posture, gestures facial expressions, and even physical proximity. A high status individual might stand tall and use open gestures, maintaining strong unwavering eye contact, while a low-status individual might be a lot more hunched affecting their posture, avoid eye contact or fidget nervously. These subtle cues can tell the audience volumes about the power dynamics at play. low or high status individuals may act differently depending on their circumstances.

Psychological Impact: Status deeply affects our psychology. High status people usually experience feelings of confidence, control , and influence . however, low-status people might struggle with feelings and insecurity, anxiety, or even self doubt. As an actor, understanding how my character perceives their status and how it shapes there internal world is vital for a genuine performance.

studying animal characteristics

I've always been deeply fascinated as an actor with the mesmerizing world of animal studies. This captivating journey has genuinely improved my craft by allowing me to dive deep into the intricate details of animal traits, behaviours, and physicality. All of this contributes to a more profound understanding of character development. Let me take you through my personal journey in this remarkable

aspect of my life as an actor:

Exploration and Observation: My adventure into the world of animal studies begins with a thorough exploration and careful observation. I wholeheartedly immerse myself in the enchanting world of various animals, from our beloved pets to the untamed creatures of the wild. This journey involves watching documentaries, diving into books, and closely

observing animals in their natural habitats or at the local zoo.

Physical Emulation: Once I've built a solid foundation of knowledge about the animal I intend to portray, I embark on the exhilarating path of physically embodying its characteristics. I pay keen attention to the way the animal moves, its posture, gait, and any distinctive physical features. This transformation can be quite demanding, requiring precise muscle control and a profound awareness of my body.

Emotional and Mental Connection: My exploration of animal work goes beyond the realm of physical imitation. I strive to forge a deep connection with the animal's mindset and emotional state. I think what motivates the animal, its fears, desires, and instincts. This profound understanding empowers me to tap into a broad spectrum of emotions and psychological traits that I can apply to my characters.

Spontaneity and Play: An integral part of my study of animal characteristics is the liberty to be spontaneous and playful. I often spend time embodying the animal in a playful manner, exploring its movements, sounds, and interactions. This process helps me unlock spontaneity and authenticity in my performances.

Character Integration: The ultimate goal of my animal work is to seamlessly integrate these acquired traits into the characters I portray. By infusing the physicality, mentality, and emotional dimensions of the animal into my performance, I craft characters that demonstrate authenticity and reliability.

Scene Analysis: When preparing for specific scenes, I precisely analyze how the animal characteristics can enhance the actions and reactions of my characters. For instance, if my character is confronted with fear, I can draw upon the instincts of a prey animal to inform my physical and emotional responses.

Collaboration: Acting is often a collaborative journey, and sharing my animal work with fellow actors and the director deepens our understanding of the characters and results in more compelling scenes. Effective communication is essential to ensure that my choices align with the overall vision of the production.

Continuous Exploration: My engagement with animal work is not a one-time thing; it's an ongoing process. I continually refine and expand my repertoire of animal characteristics. This ongoing exploration equips me with versatility, enabling me to adapt to a wide range of roles.

The study of animal characteristics as an actor is a dynamic and immersive journey involving thorough research, physical transformation, emotional connection, and their seamless integration into character work. This approach not only enhances my ability to breathe life into characters but also deepens my understanding of the diverse range of human and non-human experiences, making my performances more captivating and authentic.

In performing arts, physicality involves the use of the body, movement, and physical expression to convey emotions, character, and storytelling. It Captures a fundamental element of acting, with the potential to significantly enhance a performer's ability to connect with the audience. Let's now explore this topic more deeply:

Body Awareness: Crucial is an understanding of one's body. This encompasses recognizing the body's various parts, their functions, and effective control. It also involves an awareness of body alignment, posture, and physical tension.

Gesture and Movement: Communication with the audience relies on actors' use of gestures and movement. This ranges from subtle facial expressions to expansive, choreographed dance sequences. The choice of movement should align with the character's intentions and emotions.

Voice and Speech: Beyond movement, physicality encompasses vocal techniques. An actor's use of their voice, including tone, pitch, volume, and articulation, can convey extensive information about a character.

Physical Characterization: Actors often need to transform physically to portray different characters. This may involve changes in posture, gait, facial expressions, and even physical attributes through makeup and costumes.

Emotional Expression: The body serves as a potent tool for conveying emotions. Through their physicality, actors can express a broad spectrum of feelings, from joy and love to anger, fear, and sadness.

Spatial Awareness: Crucial is an understanding of how to navigate and utilize space on stage. This includes blocking (choreographed movement on stage), interaction with props, and knowing where to position oneself for maximum impact.

As an actor, I can enhance my performances through the following applications of this knowledge:

Character Development: I can employ my body to establish unique physical characteristics for each character I portray. This might involve adjusting my posture, movement style, and facial expressions to align with the character's personality and backstory.

Emotional Depth: I can convey my character's inner emotional world through physicality. For example, if my character is experiencing profound sadness, I can use my body to manifest that emotion physically, as in slumped shoulders and a slow, weighty gait.

Storytelling: Effective use of physicality helps me vividly convey the narrative. Whether it's a fight scene, a love story, or a comedic moment, my physical expressions and movements can render the story more engaging and relatable to the audience.

Communication: My voice and body language serve as vital tools for audience communication. By modulating my voice and employing gestures, I ensure that my message is clear and impactful.

physicality stands as a versatile and indispensable facet of performing arts. By harnessing the power of the body, an actor can breathe life into characters, establish deeper connections with the audience, and contribute to a more captivating and immersive performance. The understanding and effective utilization of physicality represents a continuous journey of growth and self-discovery for an actor, an ongoing process of honing and expanding one's physical toolkit for the stage.

Becoming a wolf ( animal studies)

Characteristics of the Wolf:
Wolves, those highly social and remarkably intelligent carnivorous mammals, are renowned for their captivating attributes.

Physical Appearance:

Size: The size of wolves varies among subspecies, but on average, they span from 4.5 to 6.5 feet (1.4 to 2 meters) in length, tail included. Their shoulder height spans from 26 to 32 inches (66 to 81 cm).

Weight: Grown wolves typically tip the scales at 40 to 175 pounds (18 to 79 kilograms), with males eclipsing their female counterparts.

Fur Attire: A luxuriant double-layered fur coat envelops them, sporting an outer layer of guard hairs that serve as insulation and a formidable defence against the elements.

Shades of Pelt: The hue of wolf fur exhibits an array of shades, ranging from grey and brown to black and white, contingent upon subspecies and geographic locale.

Social Configuration:

Wolves rank high on the sociability scale, dwelling in familial packs. These packs, the typical wolf social units, comprise an alpha pair, the dominant male and female, and their progeny.

Pecking Order: A strict social hierarchy prevails within these packs, with the alpha pair reigning supreme. Subordinate wolves proclaim submission through body language and demeanor.

Collaborative Spirit: When it comes to hunting and child-rearing, wolves employ a remarkable level of cooperation and collective endeavor.

Methods of Expression:

Wolves' means of communication encompass a repertoire of vocalizations, encompassing howls, growls, barks, and whines. Howling serves as a long-distance mode of communication and assembles the pack.

Bodily Vernacular: Heavy reliance on body language is evident, with tail positioning, ear orientation, and facial expressions all contributing to the conveyance of emotions and intentions.

Dietary Preferences:

Wolf dietary inclinations lean carnivorous, with an inclination towards larger ungulates such as deer, elk, moose, and bison. They also exhibit opportunistic tendencies, venturing into smaller mammals, birds, and carrion.

Hunting Tactics: Notable for their cooperative hunting stratagems, wolves display synchronized maneuvers to isolate and subdue their quarry.

Habitat Choice:

Wolves stake their claim across a plethora of ecosystems, spanning forests, tundra, grasslands, and mountains, dictated by geographic placement and prey accessibility. Their presence graces North America, Eurasia, and select areas of Africa.

Span of Existence:

In their natural habitat, wolves are prone to a 6 to 8-year lifespan, though exceptions exceeding 10 to 12 years exist. In captivity, their longevity may surpass these temporal boundaries.

Navigating Wolf Traits as an Actor Engaged in Animal Studies:

For those tasked with the portrayal of wolves, whether in the realm of acting or animal studies, the following procedural considerations hold value:

Observation: The initiation of this journey involves attentive observation of wolf behavior. Documentaries, films, and visual material portraying wolves in their native habitat or in controlled environments prove instrumental in grasping their movement patterns, behavior, and social dynamics.

Physicality: A comprehensive grasp of wolf physical attributes becomes the next imperative. This encompasses posture, gait, and the nuanced deployment of body language as a medium for conveying sentiments of dominance, submission, aggression, and affection.

Vocal Replication: A valuable skill lies in the adept mimicry of wolf vocalizations, notably howls and growls. Proficiency in this domain facilitates the portrayal of the emotional spectrum and communication strategies integral to wolf life.

Pack Insights: Familiarity with the hierarchical structures within wolf packs and the dynamics of interpersonal interactions can prove invaluable. This insight contributes to the portrayal of the intricate social relationships that are characteristic of wolf behavior.

Hunting Mastery: Comprehension of wolf hunting strategies is a further requisite. Stalking, pursuit, and ambush tactics warrant incorporation when the scenario necessitates.

Emotion Depiction: Lastly, wolf portrayals benefit from the authentic conveyance of emotions. Wolves traverse a spectrum that encompasses curiosity, playfulness, aggression, and fear, necessitating a thespian ability to accurately replicate these emotional states.

Significance of Animal Studies in the Acting Realm:

Animal studies occupy a pivotal role within the domain of acting for several compelling reasons:

Authenticity of Character: Actors who acquaint themselves with animal behaviour can infuse their performances with a distinct authenticity. This authenticity elevates the portrayal of animals or characters with animalistic attributes, rendering them considerably more believable.

Physicality and Kinetics: An understanding of animals' physicality and kinetic traits bolsters an actor's capacity to convincingly embody characters from the animal kingdom. Such comprehension yields performances that are immersive and persuasive.

Range of Emotions: The world of animals unfurls a diverse panorama of emotions. Exploring animal behaviour equips actors with a broader emotional palette to draw from when bringing characters to life, be they human or animal-inspired.

Bridging with Nature: Animal studies foster a profound connection with the natural world. Actors derive inspiration from the splendour and intricacies of the animal kingdom, manifesting this connection in their work.

Versatility: The knowledge accrued through animal studies transcends singular character portrayals. It equips actors with the agility to adapt to a multitude of roles, bestowing upon them the confidence and finesse to navigate diverse scenarios.

Concluding this discourse, the inclusion of wolf characteristics or those of any other creature within an acting performance not only enriches the portrayal but also underscores the actor's commitment to their craft. It accentuates the significance of comprehending and respecting the animal realm, a facet that resonates profoundly in the world of acting and the appreciation of its multifaceted intricacies.

This helped with my character development and the movement of my character.

Harvey Spectre And why he Links to Miles Cooper.

Throughout my creative journey and my research I started exploring different series and characters that may embody the characteristics of Miles. While on this creative venture I found multiple candidates that I could siphon from, One of them being Harvey Spectre.

Harvey Spectre is a well renowned former corporate attorney, of the the partners at Spectre Litt Wheeler Williams, and the managing partner of Specter Litt.

Though they come from quite different backgrounds, Harvey Spectre from the television series "Suits" and Miles Cooper from Ella Hickson's play "Eight" have similar characteristics and lives characterised by prosperity, self-assurance, and a liking for the finer things in life. This is a thorough analysis of how their spending patterns, looks, and lifestyles differ.

-Harvey Specter: Lifestyle, Clothing, and Expenditure-

                                         -lifestyle-
Harvey Spectre is an established attorney at Pearson Spectre Litt, known for his intelligent observation, clever preparation, and unwavering will to succeed. He is the perfect example of the driven, high-stakes lawyer in New York City, always balancing business politics with high-stakes cases. He possesses a strong work ethic and usually works weekends and late nights, yet he also enjoys luxury and pleasure.

                                     -Clothing-

An essential component of Harvey's character is his attire. He virtually never appears without a suit, thanks to the impeccable tailoring of high-end designers like Tom Ford. His suits are usually in black, charcoal, and navy, traditional colours that go well with pristine white shirts and silk ties. His refined footwear and cufflinks and pocket squares, among other things, complete his appearance and emanate sophistication and strength.

-Expenditure-
Harvey's spending is evident to his luxurious way of living. He drives a slick Porsche 911, lives in a contemporary, luxurious Manhattan apartment, and appreciates good meals, pricey watches, and quality Scotch. His spending patterns support his identity as a wealthy and influential person by highlighting his quest for status and excellence.

-Miles Cooper: Lifestyle, Clothing, and Expenditure-

                                       -Lifestyle-

In Ella Hickson's play "Eight," which portrays the lives of eight young people living in modern Britain, Miles Cooper is a character. His way of life as a banker reflects the materialism and ambition typical of the financial industry. Motivated by a drive for prosperity and achievement, he frequently contemplates over the challenges and moral choices presented by his line of work. His life moves swiftly, with hard workdays and a potent focus on developing himself professionally.

-Clothing-

Miles dresses in a way that is appropriate for his position in the financial industry: it is polished and professional. He presumably wears suits that fit him nicely, though maybe not as precisely elegant as Harvey's. His chic and contemporary attire reflects his aspirations for personal growth as well as his work environment. He knows the significance of appearance in his professional and social life.

                                 -Expenditure-

Miles's spending patterns are a reflection of his material success and status values. He spends money on eating at The best restaurants, going out to the best clubs, and occasionally treating himself to a luxury purchase like an expensive watch or high-end Suit. His expenditures are a reflection of his success in the workplace and his wish to appear polite. However this takes a more darker turn after the Events from the 7/7 bombing. Purchasing drugs and other substances to fill the void the Bombing created.

                                    -Similarities-

                           -Ambition and Success-

Harvey and Miles share a common goal of achievement and are very ambitious. This is the most energy-demanding circle.

Working on this exercise really moved me away from the script it stopped me form over analyising if i was doing it right if I had made the right decision in my delivery by focusing on an object it took my attention and focus else were.

Stanislavski – 3 Circles of attention (theatreworkout.com)

This video is a product of collaborative efforts and conversations about trauma and how the brain relives that trauma. I was having a conversation with my tutor, and we spoke about shadows and silhouettes and how we could involve a Nerva system or neural pathways for the imagery. I then thought of having a silhouette with lightning representing the Neural Pathways and Nerva System.

The flashing images in this video have taken inspiration from different parts of the script. Almost as a reescalation of events, not just for the characters, but even the audience.

The waving red flames in the background of the image represents the vivid yet distant memories of the characters. It could also link to our brain activity and how active it is. My goal for making this intro video is to create an atmosphere where the audience can interoperate the scenes better, and enhance the scenes that are performed. Another factor that contributed to the creation of this video, was the feeling of standing still while the whole world walks past you. feeling like your a visitor in your own life, and its almost your experiences shape who you are.

I wanted this photo to have layers like a brain has. The white lightning strikes you see above could represent multiple- things, which would be up to interpretation but as for my intention behind it, I felt as though they would represent scars in your mind, your memory, your soul. they could also represent the nervous system within your body.

In the image we see a plethora of lightning strikes covering the silhouette of this person, my intention for that was to create a Sensory feeling through image. That feeling of being bombarded with memories, pain and not knowing where it derived from but knowing it's there unable to track it's origin. The main goal was to leave it up to interpretation.

The Scars That Remain- Miles Costume

When it came to finding an outfit for Miles Cooper, it doesn't take much for me to find someone inspiration. from my research on Harvey Specter, Tony Stark and more I've leaned to a more casual and slick look. I had to consider the fact that the costume that would be worn on the show day wouldn't be parallel to Miles's every day look. I had to consider that what he was wearing was after of the 7 7 bombing. that much of trauma concertedly affect how someone would express themselves to their clothes.

Miles is someone who likes to keep his high status clean and pristine. and to maintain that image he need to look the part regardless of if he has the money he claims he does or not. so, keeping all of this in mind I opted out for a clean slick casual look. the white T-shirt on the inside represents Miles's Elegance or even how much he liked to be perceived as elegant. the drop drop revere long sleeve pleated shirt in the colour of mocha represents miles and his stillness or his lukewarm tendencies. The fact that the colour is mocha means it isn't too dark it isn't too bright it's sort of in limbo just like Myles himself it's almost like these clothes or personifying how miles is feeling internally and showcasing them externally.

Lasty the chain was added for a luxurious effect. We all know miles and how exotic he is when it comes to spending his expenditure is 1 of his major attributes. So this silver Cuban chain was the perfect addition to this outfit. another reason I thought this chain was perfect for this outfit was because of how subtle it was yet how much you stood out.

Miles went from having everything he's ever touched and more to go and back to Merlin to ask for more money. This tells me that miles doesn't have as much now compared to when he was at his prime. Keeping All of that in mind I feel as though miles would add a small touch of wealth to his outfit just to say tethered, connected, intertwined with the man he used to be because now he fears he may never go back to who he was.

Uta Hagen acting technique

The renowned actress and practitioner Uta Hagen created a thorough method of acting that prioritises sincerity, emotional truth, and in-depth character development. Generations of actors have been impacted by her techniques, which have profoundly changed the industry. I'll explore the fundamentals of Uta Hagen's acting style and how an actor might use them to improve their performance.

                  -Background and Philosophy-

Actress and practitioner Uta Hagen (1919–2004) was well-known for her Broadway credits and her work as a teacher at New York City's Herbert Berghof Studio (HB Studio). Her two books, A Challenge for the Actor and Respect for Acting, have become classics in the field of actor training.

Hagen's guiding principle is that for their performances to be genuine and credible, actors need to draw on their own feelings and experiences. She underlined that in order to represent a character accurately, one must understand their relationships, motivations, and situations.

-Key Principles of Uta Hagen's Technique-

1. Substitution:

In order to relate to the character's emotional life, substitution entails drawing on your own memories and experiences. Actors can access real feelings and responses by replacing the experiences of the character with their own. Using this technique enables performers to give their performances a real and authentic feel.

Example Exercise: Remember a moment when you had a powerful feeling similar to what your character is going through. Utilise that memory to enhance your performance in the scene.

2. Emotional Recall:

Using a method known as emotional recall, actors recall particular sensory details from their past in order to provoke the emotions needed for a scene. This technique aids performers in connecting with their characters' experiences and gaining access to intense emotions.

Example Exercise: Shut your eyes and think back to a particular incident that made your emotions surge intensely. Concentrate on the specifics of your senses: what you heard, felt, smelled, and saw. Make use of these specifics to bring the emotion back into your performance.

3. The Five W's:

Hagen urged performers to use the Five W's as a tool to analyse their characters in detail: Who, What, Where, When, and Why. Actors can create a more complex and credible portrayal by using this in-depth character analysis to better grasp the motivations, connections, and history of their characters.

- Who: Who am I? Who is my character in terms of personality, background, and relationships?

- What: What are my character's objectives and obstacles in the scene?

- Where: Where is the scene set? How does the environment influence the character?

- When: When does the scene take place? What historical or personal context is relevant?

- Why: Why is my character behaving in this way? What are their motivations and desires?

4. Physical Actions
Hagen thought that in order to create a credible performance, physical gestures were essential. Actors need to be conscious of how their actions reflect the motivations and feelings of the characters. This method guarantees that each gesture and action is intentional and grounded in the character's world.

Example Exercise: As your character, carry out a basic chore, such as preparing a cup of tea. Consider how the emotions and physicality of your character affect how you approach the task.

5. Living in the Moment

During a performance, "living in the moment" refers to giving your all and responding accordingly. Hagen underlined how crucial it is to respond to the other performers and the scene's developments honestly. This method produces lively and genuine performance.

Exercise Example: Practice improvisation with a scenario partner. Keep your attention on reacting impulsively to what they say and do while being completely present in the now.

              -Applying Uta Hagen's Technique-

Actors need to incorporate the following exercises into their training and performance preparation in order to utilise Hagen's principles effectively:

Consistent Practice:
Practice emotional recall and substitution activities frequently to improve your capacity to access real emotions when needed.

Journals of Characters:
Keep a character journal in which you examine each role's Five W's. Write in-depth entries on the history, goals, and interpersonal connections of your character.

Scene Analysis:
Arrange your scenes according to Hagen's guidelines. Examine the goals, challenges, and actions you perform to make sure your performance is based on the character's reality.

Techniques for Rehearsals:
During rehearsals, use improvisation and substitution to strengthen your relationship with the character and the scene.

Comments & Feedback:
Ask peers, instructors, and directors for their opinions. Consider how you performed, and note any areas where you

-Benefits of Uta Hagen's Technique for Actors-

Learning Uta Hagen's style as an actress has many advantages:

Authenticity:
Your acting will be more genuine and convincing if you use your own experiences and feelings.

Depth of Emotion:
You can access deep emotions through emotional recall and replacement, which gives your characters additional levels of complexity.

Understanding Characters:
You may be sure you completely understand the motivations and behaviours of your character by conducting a thorough character analysis using the Five W's.
Lively Exhibitions:

Dynamic and captivating performances are created by being present in the moment and being honest with scene partners.

Physicality:
Your physical presence on stage or screen is enhanced when you are conscious of your movements and how they fit the intentions of the character.

The acting method developed by Uta Hagen is an invaluable resource for any performer looking to improve their craft and create engaging, authentic characters. Her ideas have helped me improve as an actor and give my roles more depth and authenticity by being included into My training and preparation.

Diagrammatic breathing

Diaphragmatic breathing, sometimes referred to as abdominal or deep breathing, is a method of breathing in which the diaphragm is completely engaged. The movement of the abdomen, compared to the chest, during this breathing technique enables a deeper intake of air and improved internal oxygenation.

Diaphragmatic breathing engages the diaphragm, a large, dome-shaped muscle located at the base of the lungs. Here's a step-by-step breakdown of how it works:

Inhalation:
Your diaphragm tightens and descends during a deep inhalation, expanding the space in your chest.
The lungs may fill with air more fully thanks to this expansion.
The abdomen expands as the diaphragm descends.

Exhalation:

The diaphragm relaxes and rises into the chest cavity during exhale.
Air is forced out of the lungs by this movement.
As the air is released, the abdomen contracts inward.

           -Benefits of Diaphragmatic Breathing-

Improved Oxygenation:

Diaphragmatic breathing improves oxygen exchange by letting the lungs expand to its limit, which increases the amount of oxygen that enters the bloodstream and tissues.

Stress Reduction:

The parasympathetic nervous system is triggered by deep, deliberate breathing, which helps to relax the body and lessen the stress reaction.
This can promote relaxation by lowering blood pressure and heart rate.

Enhanced Lung Function:

Frequent exercise helps increase lung function and capacity, which is particularly beneficial for people with respiratory diseases like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or asthma.

Improved Posture:
Proper diaphragmatic engagement aligns the spine, eases shoulder and neck stress, and promotes improved posture.

Mental Clarity:

Diaphragmatic breathing has been shown to promote oxygenation and decrease stress, both of which can improve mental clarity and cognitive function.

            -Steps to Practice Diaphragmatic Breathing-

Find a Comfortable Position:

Either sit comfortably in a chair with your head, neck, and shoulders back, or lie on your back with your legs bent.

Place Your Hands:

Put one hand on your chest and the other, little below your ribs, on your abdomen.

Inhale Deeply:

Breathe in slowly using your nose, letting your diaphragm descend while your abdomen rises. Your chest should not move too much.

Exhale Fully:

Breathe out slowly through your mouth, allowing your diaphragm to

relax and rise as you feel your abdomen drop.

Repeat:

For several minutes, keep breathing in this manner while concentrating on the movement of your abdomen and keeping a moderate, steady rhythm.

                       -Diaphragmatic Breathing for Actors-

Learning diaphragmatic breathing as an actor can greatly improve both your performance and general health.

Vocal Control and Projection:

The support required for a powerful, controlled vocal delivery is provided by diaphragmatic breathing. It guarantees power and clarity in your speaking as it allows you to project your voice more effectively without damaging your vocal chords.

Emotional Regulation:

It's common for acting to require access to an a wide variety of emotions. By controlling your emotional responses, diaphragmatic breathing enables you to remain composed and concentrated in stressful situations. It also facilitates the smooth transition between different emotional states.

Physical Endurance:

Being in front of the camera or on stage can be exhausting. Diaphragmatic breathing increases lung capacity and oxygenation, which improves stamina and endurance and helps you stay energised during rehearsals and performances.

Stress Management:

With their high standards and rigorous schedules, performing arts may be very stressful. With increasing relaxation and lowering anxiety, diaphragmatic breathing helps you manage performance-related stress better.

Diaphragmatic breathing is a vital technique for any actor, as it may significantly enhance vocal quality, emotional control, physical endurance, and stress management when included into daily routine.

consumerism

Consumerism, at its core, is the ideology that emphasizes the acquisition of goods and services as a key driver of a healthy economy and personal satisfaction. It's the belief that buying things fuels economic growth and individual happiness. Here's a deeper dive into this complex concept:

The Engine of the Economy: Companies can't operate without the customers who buy their products and services. Demand raised by this spending motivates companies to raise the quantity they produce. This cycle supports economic activity, generating income, jobs, and tax revenue for the government. For economists, consumer expenditure is a vital indicator since it shows how the economy is performing overall.

The Psychology of Buying: Marketing and advertising have a big influence on what people want to buy. Businesses employ clever methods to appeal to our feelings, desires, and fears in order to persuade us that we require their products or services in order to be content, successful, or fulfilled. This impact is exacerbated by social media, which constantly bombards us with pictures of seemingly ideal lives centred around material possessions.

The Dark Side of Consumption: There are a number of downsides to uncontrolled consumerism. Impact on the environment: The continuous produce of products frequently results in waste production, pollution, and resource depletion. Social Inequality: The persistent chase of material possessions can make social inequality worse by giving those with money greater access to desirable products, which in turn widens the wealth gap between the rich and the poor. Overconsumption and Debt: People who have easy access to credit are more likely to overspend, which causes debt and depression.

-Consumerism in "Eight" by Ella Hickson-

Set in the midst of the 2008 financial crisis, Ella Hickson's play "Eight" examines the effects of consumerism on a youth frustrated with a world fixated on material items. Several characters struggle with it . The London bombings survivor Miles is the embodiment of consumerism's hollow feeling. Even if he owns possessions, he finds it difficult to have purpose in life. It's possible that the attack's stress destroyed his previous attachment to worldly possessions and made him doubt their actual worth.

                                      -LINKS-

https://www.investopedia.com/terms/c/consumerism.asp

Social And National Boundaries

Social and national boundaries are essential elements that influence how human civilizations function and interact with one another. Boundaries are not just physical markers; they have significant implications for identity, belonging, power, and conflict, even though they are frequently used to define spaces and groups. I'll explores the complex nature of national and social boundaries, looking at their historical context, purposes, and problems in an increasingly globalised society.

He distinctions that societies make between various groups according to a variety of factors, including gender, race, ethnicity, class, religion, and more, are referred to as social borders. These limits are not derived from underlying natural differences, but rather are socially formed through human interaction and agreement.

Social borders have several purposes. By helping people and groups to identify with certain communities, they promote a feeling of identification and belonging. They frequently support inequality and discrimination, but they also serve as instruments of exclusion. For example, class divisions can result in economic inequality and restricted social mobility, while racial and ethnic divides can cause systemic prejudice.

Social boundaries are always being enforced, often in a subtle way, through institutional methods, the socialisation processes, and cultural standards. For instance, policies in the workplace, media portrayals, and educational institutions can all uphold borders and affect how individuals view and relate to one another.

The external borders that define a nation-state's territory are known as its national boundaries. These borders are necessary to preserve state sovereignty and are recognised under international law. National borders, in contrast to social ones, are frequently delineated by physical features such as walls and fences, or by natural landmarks like mountains and rivers.

Historically, events like colonisation, conflict, and diplomacy have all contributed to the drawing of country boundaries. A key turning point in the evolution of the modern state system is frequently recognised as the Treaty of Westphalia, which established the principles of national sovereignty and territorial integrity and put an end to the Thirty Years' War in Europe in 1648.

LINKS-

https://scholar.harvard.edu/lamont/files/m.lamont-v.molnar-the_study_of_boundaries.pdf

https://www.libraryofsocialscience.com/newsletter/posts/2016/2016-11-15-Boundaries.html

Parameters And Requirements

Due to my storage, the video cut off. Here is my notes and continuation of what was going to be said:

A reminder of Parameters

"A limit or boundary which defines the scope of a particular process or activity..."

Money/Budget: Every production needs an exact budget to pay for cast, crew, set design, props, costume, make-up and potential venue hire.

Audience Capacity: Before any form of marketing is done for a production you must ensure you know the capacity of your theatre space. our capasity is 200 people

Student Absence/Health & Safety: Student's absence from rehearsals can Disrupt a shows progression. Additionally, risk assessments must be filled out in order to insure their performers. For example sage and Mitch.

Time Constraints: All cast and crew must be aware of the time limitations before a show. knowing the amount of rehearsal time is vital for performers. In doing so, they're able to meticulously plan enough rehearsal time to perfect their performance pieces. We had structured days for rehearsals.

Length Of Show/Number Of Pieces: Whilst constructing a variety show, the directors must ensure the number of pieces add up to time that's both not too short and not too long. The average length of a variety show is 1 hour 30 minutes with one intermission. Our length was 45 mins, hard to count it.

Requirements

"A thing that is needed or wanted..."

1) Performers (aka students):

2) Rehearse Performance Material: Without the necessary rehearsal time performers can become nervous and lose confidence. Which in turn can cause any performer to forget lines/choreography, radiate a lacklustre stage presence and create an overall subpar show.

3) Learn Lines/Song Lyrics: Memorising lines increases confidence, which in turn creates a more impactful and professional performance. People werent the best with learning lins

4) Lighting & Sound: Timings and cues for technical staff are vital in order to perfectly time sound effects and blackouts. We had 2 tech runs which went smoothly

5) Audience/Tickets: Without sufficient ticket distribution, shows run the risk of losing money. Our tickets sales were fair, could've been better

6) Venue: Any venue chosen must be able to support the needs of your performance (wire-work, trapdoor, pyrotechnics etc). Ours was perfect for our performance, why?

7) Costume/Make-Up/Props: Quality costuming, make-up and props present a level of professionalism with any performance. Costume was fine and props were limited.

The video attached has a multiple audition monologues. For FMP I was required to audition for the role I wanted, mine was Miles cooper. The speech that I used for my audition was Coriolanus written by William Shakespeare. I thought as though this monologue would have been perfect for the audition for miles Cooper because how powerful Coriolanus is and his status and power reflects with Miles's. The fact that Myles has one everything he's ever touched and Coriolanus has won every battle he's ever been in. Despite their different backgrounds they may possibly have similar motives.
