I haven't been on a cross-functional team that was project based, however I have worked together with individuals across our college to raise funds for the Combined Virginia Campaign. We meet regularly during the campaign to discuss short term tasks and goals as well as update each other on where we're at with our responsibilities for the larger, final fundraiser at the end of the campaign. Due to our efforts, our college has been successful with achieving their fundraising goals each year.

The Graduate Team of our department hosts orientation events for new graduate students twice a year. Same cross-functional team is built each time, from every related parts of the department. The HR, payroll, IT, faculty, and administration team all join the orientation to present their part of job to the new graduate student. It is very important for each one on the team to best present their part effectively and efficiently for the students. And every time, we do a good job. Results from the after-orientation survey approve that.

I have not been on a project-based team, but am currently serving on the Transportation & Parking Committee which I believe to be similar. Many different departments coming together for a specific goal/workplan every year.

I worked on a cross functional team with EHS, Emergency Management and the Police Department to design a tracking system for expenditure requests. We met regularly to define their specific goals and chain of command for approval. The system was implemented in a phase approach beginning with the police department and continued by bringing in EHS then Emergency Management. The process helped to increase efficiency for ordering items and included a dashboard to see where purchases were in the system. The team also included the finance team which were the final step in checking budget.

I have worked on several successful cross-functional teams during my time at the University. I have served in various roles on these teams, from project planning to fiscal work and even programming. In Extension, we regularly collaborate with other departments across the campus, as well as with our Extension colleagues across the state.

I was part of a universtiy-wide cross-functional team that coordinated the visit of the President of the Republic of Botswana to Virginia Tech. It involved working with President Sand's office, the Provost office, various government officials for Botswana, Event planning, parking services, Blacksburg Police deparment, secret service, VT airport as well as local businesses that helped suppor the event. While it was a challenging process, organization and open communication lines were key as well as knowing how to be extremely flexible!

I actually assisted those on the TEM system cross functional team. Most cross functional teams that I have been on, or a part of, at the university have been successful. I find that most people want what is best for everyone and the university, and are willing to work to meet that goal. The most recent cross functional team I was on involved different offices within our department. It was also successful and we created an outstanding product/result!

I worked the implantation of the new leave system. We worked with area departments to find out how it would impact there department, worked with centralized IT for we had what we wanted it to offer at the start and what could be added in later phases, we worked several areas for testing of the system to see if they could break the new leave system.

I work in a cross-functional teams for billing invoices from vendors typically involve collaboration between various departments such as people who work at various depts. Including Customer Support Services (CSS), Vendors, Atlas, Banner, Controller’s Office, HokieMart, warehouse, and business operations. I work with this team to ensure that vendor invoices are processed accurately and efficiently. By working together, these teams can streamline the invoice approval process, automate workflows, solve any problems and ensure timely and accurate processing of vendor invoices. Effective communication is crucial for cross-functional teams. Regular meetings and updates help keep everyone on the same page and ensure that any issues are addressed promptly. This collaborative approach helps in finding innovative solutions and improving overall efficiency. Cross-functional teams promote transparency by keeping all stakeholders informed about the status of invoices and any issues that may arise. During Covid I worked on a cross-functional team to determine what would be the safest and best way to support people who wanted to come in the office. We devised sanitation stations in different areas of the building and provided supplies for people to wipe down shared things like copiers and an instruction card on the best way to disinfect the surface. We also worked on areas where people could work while social distancing and ways the employee and the co-workers could come into the office, feel safe, reduce conflict, and be productive during an uncertain, stressful time.

While I have not yet served on a cross-functional team dedicated to a specific project, my role as Fiscal Administrative Assistant with Virginia Cooperative Extension requires ongoing collaboration with a diverse team. I work closely with unit coordinators, Extension agents, administrative staff, and university partners to support financial operations, procurement, grant management, and program logistics. This collaborative environment allows me to contribute to the success of educational and community outreach initiatives across multiple disciplines.

I worked on a cross functional team when the School of Medicine was becoming an official college under VT. There were a lot of moving pieces to ensure students would continue to receive services. It was very successful and we learned a lot along the way about each other's department.

I serve on a committee for our division, each department in the division is represented on the committee. This allows us to give views from different perspectives and ensure we are thoughtful about each office. This team works to create activities and events for employee engagement, service projects, recognition events and learning events. We utilize subcommittees to help accomplish the work, but lots of communication is really important to ensure we can effectively plan and execute these events/programs.

I participated in a cross functional team at Center for the Arts where we worked with all of our units, including Production, Patron Services, Admin, along with IT and the Payroll department. We coordinated with technical and administrative leads to troubleshoot, ensuring all employees had access to the new system and to guarantee a seamless transition.
