As a newcomer in the school I spent a lot of time in restructuring the IT infrastructure of the school due to the reason that there were made a lot of changes and replugging from each Informatics teacher. Hello! I'm an Italian teacher, a supporting teacher for students with special needs in high school (14-18 years old), "animatore digitale" (digital animator) and G Suite Administrator.
My work schedule only includes teaching hours, other activities are extracurricular activities.
My school is a school with more than 1000 students and it offers three courses of study over five years: Commercial, Food and Hospitality Management and Tourism Management. The school has two locations and many different computer labs. We have different kind of devices (chromebook, laptop and PC - Windows), LAN and WI-FI.

Our school network is organized by Croatian Academic Research Network and they manage all network connections from central point in Zagreb. We are not allowed to interact with their equippment. Hello everyone! I teach informatics in a big school (1500 students) and for the past 5 years I am not managing the school ICT network but I've done that in the past. It can be a very tricky activity. And with lots of responsibility. When I did that, I had 90% of my time for teaching and the rest 10% for managing the school ICT network. Mixing the two roles can have advantages because as a teacher the problems are rapidly identified and if you teach subjects like networking and IT security you can give to your students a hands-on opportunity to practice. On the other end being a teacher and managing the school network can have drawbacks because you know you surely will spend more time solving problems then that you have.

Hi. I am currently just a teacher, but one of my previous jobs was managing ICT only. In Croatia teachers are usually given 2 hours a week for this type of work (that is 2 x 45 minutes), which obviously is not enough to configure one computer properly, let alone a whole school network and devices. For that reason teachers are hardly motivated to maintain and develop their school's IT environment, which more often than not leads to rough work conditions. Therefore I salute every effort to educate teachers in my country and in others as well, because learning from other people's experiences is way easier than doing the hard work by yourself only with some help from Mr. Google.

Hi. I am IT specialist. In our school we have over 160 PC's and a lot of other IT infrastructure devices. I managing all of it: PC's(to PC word fits all periferial things included), all network comunication, Wifi (AP), printers, MFC's, projectors, smart bords, Surveilence systems. Of course, as Livio said, it takes far more time to do that than I'm paid for, but we have no other option since I'm the only ICT "expert" in school. We often have problems with our LAN and connections to the Internet, which are very slow and totally inadequate for both lessons and administrative work that our non-teacher staff does. In our school with 850+ pupils and about 80 teachers and 30 staff members we have 2 people responsible for IT infrastructure: educational technologist (me) and IT expert.

My main role is to support teachers with everything related to software (web based environments, apps, desktop programs). But more and more I find myself doing ICT expert tasks: maintaining and troubleshooting network issues; installing printers, video equipment; troubleshooting hardware issues.

As I find all these tasks interesting and challenging it's no problem for me taking the responsibility. Our headmaster is supportive and notices the effort I put into ICT development.

I'm only person in my school who is graduated in computer technics. My primary work is to teach IT our students. We have about 100 computers and other devices (printers, projectors, etc). Unfortunately, we have any person who maintain these devices.

I have been working more than 10 years in this school and during this period there was happened many changes in the school. I had been trying to help my colleagues and now all fixing and repairing is connected with me, so that brings me in very difficult position.

Sometimes I have spent more time on manage this and my core business suffer. I have to do many things as teacher (study my students about IT) but due to lack of time I have been missing my schedule. On the other hand, I can’t express what percentage of my worktime is administrator work because I have to do administrative work altogether with my full job time as the teacher. It means, I don’t paid as administrator, it is my parallel job.

Last two years I spent my time to find better solution for me to satisfy booth side (me and school). That is the reason what I'm here.

This dual role is very tough to me, but it is challenge for me.

Yes, I am teaching full time. However I get a deputation of 5 hours for my ICT trainee program and tasks. That means that I teach about 75% and about 25%, I am working as ICT consultant. As we are just starting something similar to an “ICT lab” in our city , 5 hours for 3 teachers with deputation aren’t enough. There is so much work that needs to be done, but too little time. At the same time, I miss some of my classes which is inconvenient for students and me.

Concerning the video, I was a bit overwhelmed with the technical terms. Maybe there could be a glossary of terms that we have to know at the beginning of the course. Unfortunately, the audio quality isn’t that good so it was hard for me to properly understand the video.

Here in Lithuania, or at least in my school, ICT coordinators have a bit different role - we do not deal with infrastructure - we educate teachers and help them to integrate ICT into their lessons. This role takes at least 6 percent of my working hours.

We manage our school's network through outsourcing but we don't have an IT person. Because of that I have a dual role: I'm full time Computer science teacher who on voluntary basis installs and maintains computers and helps co-workers with computer issues. Half of my working hour goes to teaching, 1/3 on ICT administration, and the rest on other duties. I like doing all of these parts, and I usually manage, but sometimes is really hard, because when something goes wrong with network either it's something that I can't fix, so have to call for professional support, or it takes too much time to figure out the solution. I work in vocational high school and yes, I teach and manage school IT infrastructure. We have CISCO router, two old PCs with m0n0wall and 6 GigaLAN switches distributed through the school. With every switch we have patch panel and all connections are labeled.

At the present time I'm not administering the infrastructure, but I've done this in some schools. When I did, I had several hours a week that I invested in managing the network and PCs. The challenges were a lot, because as IT teacher I had the knowledge to solve some problems, but others were difficult to solve and I didn't have help.

I only teach informatics but I can understand the importance of administrating networks. My school is a beautiful

but old building (see image below) and the network doesn't work very well. We don´t have a Network Administrator, just a firm that comes from time to time. I sistematically interrupt my lessons to to solve network problems. It is unproductive and a demotivation factor for my students.

I teach ICT at my school and manage infrastructure at the same time. Most of this time I repair PCs or install software, and less time I spend on network administration. It is about 20% of my working hours in school. 80% of my working hours I spend teaching and preparing students for the ICT and programming competitions.

I am not an IT expert, but I am in charge of the web site, social nets and also the Moodle platform of the centre.

I am not administrating the infrastructure in my school. I do alll the job in my class though. I have a single laptop and a TV and an internet connections. I use internet and social media , in order to keep in touch with my students and their familiy.

I teach ICT at times but am a fulltime Geogrpahy teacher. All of the students in the class have laptops and and I myself use the apple ipad via the Apple TV to work with them interactively for activities in GIS etc. The goal is to get a deeper understanding of the network system in orde it troubleshoot and avoid the day to day problems faced.

I teach computational thinking (IT, digital literacy and computer science) and also I'm responsible for network and communications. We are a private school in Portugal and we have 4 campus, and 1000 students. We grow so fast that we have to made a upgrade to our infrastructure. So, two years ago we decided to have a partner to develop and implement the new infrastructure. I monitor the network and propose improvements. We have 1:1 project and 400 iPads to manage (MDM) but we have other person that is responsible to MDM only for iPads. Wireless became very important in daily live of teachers and students. All classes, playgrounds, canteen, library have wireless. We have 100 laptops. After the upgrade my time with this kind of problems reduce much more and I have more time to study new tools to improve the CT subject. My degree is systems management and computation and I love network and systems but at the some time I love education and technology so the challenges for me are to help teachers and give to the students the passion for both knowledges.

Hello, I'm a teacher in my work, unfortunately my computer suffered a light spike, I lost everything, today 03/03/2018, I was able to connect and participate in this course, which I love so much.
In my work, I opposed a great challenge, I never thought that this could happen.
I've learned that we always have to save our files and not just use a computer!
I hope this course will guide me on how I can store data on other computers so I do not get stuck on just one.
Today I start this course. already in the last days and I hope to contribute.
My luck and that some files I saved on DVD, old method and sent myself some documents.
In this system of information we need the computer the file in the clouds is always necessary.
