On page 8 there was an article about how an Indian girl formed a group that reached out to many restaurants in order to get them to only serve half a glass of water to customers instead of a full glass as to save water. I think that is very inspiring as not many people can have the courage to do that. If there is a water shortage in Singapore in the future, we would be deeply affected by it as we never had to care about these types of things. This is the exact reason why we should adopt good water-saving habits such as; remember to turn off the tap whilst brushing your teeth.

Remember, every little step counts toward a goal. Please help save water everyone!!

However this year, many countries such as Nepal, Bangladesh, China, Pakistan, India and many more countries are facing floods and droughts this year.
In Singapore, we have access to clean water and sometimes we take it for granted. Do we ever spare a thought for people who suffer every day for clean water?
On page 8, the article mentioned about a girl named Garvita Gulhati who set out on a brave mission to save water in her home country. I think this is a very inspiring act for us to respond to. All of us do not have to go out of our way and do something big like Garvita Gulhati, yet all of us can play a part to reduce water wastage.
What can we do at home? We can take shorter showers by reducing our shower time by 1 minute every day of we can wash dishes in a tub instead of washing them over running water. We can use a cloth and pail to wash our cars instead of using a hose. We can turn off the tap whilst brushing your teeth and water used for washing vegetables can be used to water plants and we can do so much more! Remember everyone, every drop counts!

To me water wastage happens a lot in a lot of countries such as India , Malaysia , Taiwan , Indonesia and even Singapore . People in Singapore are taking our vast supply of clean water for granted and do not blink an eye at the amount of water we waste . Some of our water bills have increased above the national rate . On page 8 it talks about a girl named Garvita Gulhati who set on a brave mission to save the water in her home country by reaching out to many restaurants to make them serve only half a glass to customers . I think this is a smart thing to do as sometimes people don't finish their water and a large amount of water is wasted like that . Thank you Garvita Gulhati for inspiring us to save water .
Most people use about 141 liters of water a day . This is still a lot of water and we should reduce it to minimum 120-130 liters of water . There is a phrase that says every drop of water fills a pot . We should save every drop of water.
A few ways to save water is to take a shower for 1 minute E.T.C.
Let us save every drop of water together .
-199 words

Garvita did a great job telling us to save water. Without her, I wouldn't have actually tried checking the average amount of water Singaporeans use. It is 141 liters per day!

Through the Four National Taps, we have a robust and sustainable water supply for Singapore. Not every country is as lucky as we are they may have to buy trillions of liters of water unlike us. But not everyone knows this. They assume that everyone in the universe has enough water to live with. If we save enough water we can save water bills and also donate a few liters of water to countries that are experiencing droughts.

Do you know?

Since 2000, the number and duration of droughts have risen by 29%

From 1970 to 2019, weather, climate, and water hazards accounted for 50% of disasters and 45% of disaster-related deaths, mostly in developing countries

Droughts represent 15% of natural disasters but took the largest human toll, approximately 650,000 deaths from 1970-2019

From 1998 to 2017, droughts caused global economic losses of roughly USD 124 billion

In 2022, more than 2.3 billion people face water stress; almost 160 million children are exposed to severe and prolonged droughts

if no one takes action,

By 2030, an estimated 700 million people will be at risk of being displaced by drought

By 2040, an estimated one in four children will live in areas with extreme water shortages

By 2050, droughts may affect over three-quarters of the world’s population, and an estimated 4.8-5.7 billion people will live in areas that are water-scarce for at least one month each year, up from 3.6 billion today. And up to 216 million people could be forced to migrate by 2050, largely due to drought in combination with other factors including water scarcity, declining crop productivity, sea-level rise, and overpopulation!

How do we save water?

First, we have to start with small steps
like the points below.

WASH clothes on full load

ALWAYS use half-flush when possible

TURN off the shower when soaping

ENSURE tap is off when brushing teeth

RINSE vegetables in containeWASH clothes on full load

Every drop counts, and every contribution matters, no matter how big or small.

Water is essential to our health, our communities, and our environment. As our population grows, the water demand will continue to rise. The entire Earth consists of 71% water, out of which only a small percentage is drinkable. It is therefore extremely essential to save water. Since Singapore is a very hot and humid country, having to go through a water shortage will be extremely hard and tiring for us all, as the possible consequences of a water shortage are worse than you think. Every day, an average human being drinks about eight glasses of water. When we flush the toilet we use up to around 6 liters, other than drinking and using the bathroom, we still need water to shower, wash rice and/or vegetables, and, clean. Now, I want you to try to put this image in your mind. If you had no water, that means you might get dehydrated, few types of food can be cooked without cleaning them with water or without using water to cook them, which means less food, no showering and even the simple task of brushing your teeth may become troublesome!
On page 8, the article mentioned a girl name Garvita Gulhati who set out on a brave mission to save water in her home county. This act, that this brave girl did, is inspiring to say the least! Although we may not have the time or resources to recycle water, we can still save water by reducing water wastage.
Reusing and reducing water is not that hard. Here are some tips on saving water: Repair leaky faucets, take short showers instead of baths and turn off the water too, and do not let the tap run when brushing your teeth.
However, the most effective and important method to save water is just to spread the word about it. Yes, although most people know when they waste water, and simply do not care there are still others out there who do not. Share what you know and you might just make a difference not just to that one person that you told, but to many lives. Also, doing these acts of saving water does not only help the environment but also reduces our water bills, most of which have risen above the national average. My parents always told me not to put off till tomorrow, what I can do today because if we do not act now, there might not be a tomorrow for us to rely on, at all. Besides, it only takes a small step to contribute to a brighter future for us all, so let us just start now.
-440 words.

Water is a precious material that a lot take for granted. There are many consequences that will occur if we continue taking water for granted and wasting it.

Firstly, water has energy which can be used to produce electricity to power our devices. Thus, less water means less electricity produced by hydroelectric power stations.

Secondly, water is home to many aquatic animals like fish, aquatic plants and many more. Therefore, if we waste water, many aquatic animals will lose their homes and certainly die. Resulting in less seafood for humans to eat.

Thirdly, since Singapore is lucky to have a wastewater treatment factory, we can recycle our waste water into clean, drinkable water. However, in some other third world countries, they have to drink water that may not be clean and even have diseases in them. So if we waste the water we have, we are indirectly affecting the others by providing them with less water, another problem given to them.

For me, it would affect me mentally that we are destroying natural habitats for animals and decreasing the amount of water by wasting it. However, there are ways to prevent more water from being wasted.

We can use the water we use to wash vegetables to water the plants as well as use half flush in the toilet when we can. We can also take showers instead of baths and decrease the time taken to shower. Close the tap when brushing your teeth or when soaping. Apart from all these good water saving habits, we can reuse and reduce water while we leave the recycling to NEWater.

Let's do our part to save water and not take it for granted. Remember, water is precious and a necessity for all. Let's stop wasting water in order for everyone to have a better place to live in with sufficient water.

Water scarcity (water stress or water crisis) is the lack of fresh water resources to meet the standard water demand. There are two types of water scarcity, physical or economic water scarcity. Physical water scarcity is where there is not enough water to meet all demands, including that needed for ecosystems to function effectively. Central and West Asia, and North Africa often suffer from physical water scarcity. You would not be able to wash your hands and shower and other stuff like that and people would be fighting to get water from reservoirs.

People who saved water would have to secure their houses and people would constantly try to break in and steal water from them. I think water conservation is great and if people start realising how much water they waste we could decrease the amount of water we waste per year. I think we should start coming up with ways for us to save water with technology. We should start making sure that our rate of getting clean water is faster than our rate of wasting water. Some ways to save water are by taking 5 minute showers at most, washing your hands for 20 seconds, washing dishes in a container of water instead of a running tap, using the container of water to water your plants and many others.

The effects of wastage of water are very dire. Many places around the world have no easy access to safe potable water. Furthermore, the cost of desalination and making water potable is constantly increasing.

Wasting of water also have a disastrous effect on the ecosystem. If towns or cities use water from aquatic environments, and if these are not replenished, then the local species which live in these environments may die. In places where water is scarce, any wastage limits the water available for the needs of other people.

On page 8, the girl who took the courage to ask restaurants to serve only half a class of water did a really big part in saving water.
There are many noticeable effects of wasting water. A few of them are:

Wasting water may limit its availability to other communities, especially in areas where water shortage is common.

An arid ecosystem may suffer when water is wasted. This wasted water could have been better used elsewhere.

Excess energy will be used in sewage treatment plants to treat wasted water.

Wasting water is also an economic burden. It takes many resources and processes to purify and make water potable.

Ways we can save water are...

>Collect running water from your shower

while you wait for it to get hot

Over 10% of the water drawn from showering is wasted waiting for hot water to arrive. Collecting this excess of water in a bucket is a creative way to reduce this waste.

Water is a very useful and common thing on earth. As people take clean water for granted, they end up wasting water which a lot of people out there without water could have used. This is a huge problem impacting our future earth climate because water is for our health and to keep ourselves hygienic. So much water go to waste because tons and tons of people out there don't care about the earth, the lives of living things more. Water wastage can lead to no more water for us in the future meaning we have to drink dirty water or no water at all which could lead to dehydration.

We should take shorter showers like about 10 minutes or less, when brushing your teeth use a cup, don't leave a running tap on, wait until you have a full load before using your washing machine or your dishwasher and use a bowl in the sink when washing fruit, vegetables or dishes. If you already do these then thank you for that. Like they say; every drop counts!
