I am at a school that does not typically have a spring break, but this year we have three days off, two of which we don't go into work (1 in service day). In the past my break has been filled with baseball coaching and games. It is nice, though, not to be rushed right from school into a practice or game. I also find MANY things to do around the house. Today it was cutting, splitting, and stacking wood, fixing a wood box, fixing dresser drawers, and of course CLEANING. I actually enjoy cleaning because I have a few days where I can enjoy a clean house and not keep overlooking the mess because I don't have time to address it. I usually put my schoolwork off until the end of the break but NOT THIS YEAR (yeah right). It is nice to take it easy though, and that is usually my goal.

I appreciated the surprise Spring Break that we received in RB4! I had a few evenings where I was able to slow down and watch some of my favorite TV shows.
My school only has off the Friday before and Monday after Easter. I must admit that I am enjoying my time away from the spring craziness of middle school. I did spend a couple hours at school Friday morning and will go in for a couple hours on Monday, to do some planning, grading and to create new seating charts.
I have also enjoyed spending time with family this weekend. My husband turned 50 years old on Saturday, so I planned a surprise night out with his siblings for dinner in Rochester. With it being Easter this weekend our son, Walker, who goes to school in Bemidji came home. We then had Easter dinner with family in Stewartville, MN. It was busy, but a great weekend to catch up with the family.
Spring break is almost over, but that means one thing,...summer is just around the corner!

We had a week off for spring break and my husband and I decided to take a trip, just the two of us. We went to sunny Scottsdale, AZ where we woke up to blue skies and a warm sun every morning! Our parents helped us out by watching our son, Isaac and to our relief he did great while we were away! The surprise spring break for RB4 came on the second day of our trip and was so exciting because I could really relax and enjoy the trip without thinking about getting homework done. We spent time hiking, walking around downtown Scottsdale, enjoying some meals out, and of course laying by the pool. We came back home mid-week, which was nice to have a few days to get some things done around our house and spend time with Isaac. Now it's back to school where our days in school count has turned into an exciting countDOWN to summer!

To much of my surprise, our RB4 Spring Break happened to fall on this past week when we had a whole week off of school in our district! It was definitely a much needed week! I spent much of my time wedding planning (13 days!!), ran errands that I hadn't had time to do yet, cuddled with our dog, Nala, and even went and got a massage! I spent some time with both sides of our families throughout the week, which was nice to just relax and catch up. Brian had a few days off from work so he helped me out with running errands and spent time together just relaxing. We did take many naps over break which I think will make it hard to go back to work on Tuesday! Overall, it was a relaxing week and am ready to finish out the school year strong!

Our RB4 was such a perfect surprise - it happened to fall during a week that I was traveling to Boston for a curriculum conference, and therefore did not have a lot of time to work (because after hours, of course, we spent our time out and about in Boston!). My school only has Friday and Monday off for teachers, but I spent Friday preparing for the upcoming school week so that I could go to visit my family in Madison and enjoy flower girl dress shopping with my little cousins and Easter with my family without feeling any "teacher guilt". Today is our last day of spring break, and I plan to work on RB4 assignments, clean up the house, and do more long-term planning for fourth quarter! A much needed, relaxing but productive day!

Suzanne Pilger

I really needed a Spring Break so this was a very nice surprise. My husband has been in Baltimore for the last 3 weeks for work so I have had a little bit of a heavy load at home. (Our school does not do Spring Break but we do get Easter Monday off this year so that was something to look forward to.) I spent my RB4 Spring break taking care of my youngest who ended up with strep throat and just keeping everything going at school and at home. It was a relief to be able to step back and just concentrate on home, family and work without the added course work.

I've also been able to reestablish my evening walk habit...I love spring, just waiting for the weather to follow! The extra time also made it easier to get ready to host Easter dinner and spend time with my family.

5 ways Spring Break is different for teachers:

Students play with their games and dolls, this teacher plays with her real dollies Scarlett and Jane. I also played a new game called five crowns and some old favorites like Skip-Bo with my grown dollies (children).

Students woke to eggs placed by the Easter Bunny. This teacher was the Easter Bunny. Not only for the grandbabies and grown children but also for the students at school before break. I made a stencil of bunny prints and sprinkled baby powder over the stencil to give the appearance of the bunny hopping through the room and leaving eggs.

It is not likely that my students were planning a shower with the daughters for daughter #3!

My students do not purchase supplies for school. While I was out shopping for shower invites, I found some neon colored rubber bands to use in the math center!

While students never step foot back in the school this teacher was back in setting up for the new month of April and of course working on graduate school work.

One celebratory thing we share with our students is using the break to welcome Spring and like the blooming crocus’ return to school refreshed ready to drink up knowledge like sunshine!

I love little articles like this that show the many ways that teachers can go about spring breaking. I spend the days ahead of spring break planning what I needed to get done, grades, church, Easter Sunday, Monday, and then the rest of the week. We have Good Friday through April 8th off and I am lucky enough to have my wife home with the kids and myself from Saturday through Wednesday so I wanted to get a plan in place to maximize that time and get my goals accomplished. My first task was to make sure that I have all my students grades done prior to Saturday the 31st. We have Good Friday off and so I sat down to grade forty Great Depression-New Deal essays. I got almost all of the completed, commented on, and back to the students by Saturday morning with some church mixed in. On Saturday we took the kids to a movie and just relaxed. Sunday and Monday were more family Easter celebrations along with Mass. My second task in what I am currently doing which is getting some of my work done, this plan includes printing out the material for the week, planning which days I will do what, and sticking to that plan. My plan for the day time Mon-Wed is to take in my kids and my wife as much as possible while doing some work, planning, and preparation during nap time and at night after the kids are in bed. My hope is that by Thursday I will be satisfied and take Friday to soak in the time with family before the excitement of the conference on Saturday. I have always had to be a busy body, but I am looking for a more balanced approach this year and I think that I have done a nice job trying to find that balance daily.

The RB4 spring break came at a perfect time for me as I was on spring break at school last week - and I actually went on a spring break vacation for the first time! It was wonderful to not need to pack any homework! I spent the week in California where it was warm and sunny instead of cold and dreary (and snowy). Over the course of the week, I drove through rolling green hills, saw the ocean, walked on the beach, visited Yosemite, met my boyfriend's family, and did not think about school work AT ALL! Unfortunately spring break has come to an end, but I'll have the memories of warm weather to keep me going during this week of wintry weather.

Having a spring break was extremely needed this year! My school doesn't typically have a spring break but this year we got one. I was able to get all of my homework done the first week we got it and was able to take a full week off from being a teacher and a student. I spent the first part of my spring break in Nashville with some of my girlfriends. We had a lot of fun there. I spent the second part of my spring break relaxing and cleaning my house. There was a lot of other things I could have and should have done but I didn't.... Oh well!! Now I am sitting here doing homework again on another snow day!!!! I think it is time for SPRING!!!!!

We enjoyed visits from relatives, going out for lunches, and a trip to the zoo. We also had a day of pampering where I painted all of our nails and toes. The girls loved it and I enjoy the extra time that we got to spend together. I was also able to go on a shopping outing with my mom and also met up with a few colleagues for lunch one day.
