If you ever have a really difficult passage, say a lot of notes at a time (fast 8ths, 16ths, otherwise), a good place to start (of course) would to be starting out slow and going fast. A FANTASTIC combo with that is to put that phrase into ‘3s’; just taking the first three notes, and playing them as fast as you can consecutively, out of rhythm. For instance: ‘1 e + a 2 e +’, we would just play 1 e + as fast as possible just to get it under the fingers (of course, taking it slow at first just to get it exact). After doing that 3-5 times, we would move to the next note and put it back in threes: ‘e + a’. Then we’d repeat this until we get to the end of the phrase: ‘e + a’ to ‘+ a 2’, ‘a 2 e’, ‘2 e +’, then ‘e +’, just to finish the phrase. It does get a little tedious but it’s very effective!
