He had fake letters written and told the people that King Arthur died. They all feasted in joy. He also wanted to get married to Queen Gwynevere. But she manages to flee to the Tower and with the aid of her nobles, she was able to defend herself. The only person that questioned his motives was the Archbishop, and Sir Modred wanted to assassinate him. The Archbishop then fled to Glastonbury. Then Sir Modred got news that king Arthur was returning from France. King Arthur's army was smaller but they had more courage and they were righteous. They fight was over and King Arthur put Sir Modred's entire army to sleep. He began searching for casualties and found Sir Gawain. He was wounded and Arthur told him his feelings, that he and Launcelot were his favorites. Sir Gawain said that he is dying because Launcelot wounded him in battle and the wound opened up. He said that he knew he was going to die, and he wants to send a message to Launcelot. He was more humble in the message and said he was happy to die to a knight like Sir Launcelot. Sir Gawain had two requests, one was that he wanted Launcelot to visit his tomb. Another was that he wanted Sir Launcelot to aid King Arthur. Later at noon he died, and was buried in a chapel at Dover Castle.
