This assignment gave me a lot of room to experiment with different subject placement and different mediums. I really worked on improving my detail and I tried blending chalk dust for the first time. I really like the results I got and would definitely use the technique in the future. If I could edo this project I would experiment with subject placement. I could possibly zoom in on one of the dogs or maybe place them on the edges of the paper so that parts of them are cut off. I would also document my progress better since you can’t tell what my original ideas were or what the drawing looked like before I added the chalk dust.

I demonstrated this quote by painting a subject and using oil paints and a palette knife to create a blurred look. I enjoyed trying oil paints and loved their malleability so much that I used them in my recent painting. If I could redo this painting I would change the position of the silhouette and make it less centered. In the beginning I struggled to define the polar bears and the background but after some blending around the edges of the bears and foreground I was able to seperate the subjects from the background. After brainstorming we decided our theme show piece would be a girl in the woods surrounded by animals. The idea behind this is the girl would appear to be lost, but as the viewer can see she was actually found by some forest creatures. Since we were both familiar with graphite, Kate and I decided to use it as our medium for this project. We were able to create lots of shadows which gave the piece lots of depth and detail. I also took a leap faith and used oil as the main medium. It was challenging working with oil paint but I am really impressed with the results I got and I think it really brought life into the painting. I also got to improve my skills and learned a lot of lessons such as mixing oils and using their malleability to the best of your advantage. I also enjoyed painting something other than animals and it was fun experimenting with shadows and reflections on the bottles. I would definitely use oil paints and still life subjects in the future. There's not much I would redo with this painting except re-positioning some lines in the background.
