However, AT has stigma surrounding it, such as being unable to join the workforce and self-stigma due to the look of AT devices (particularly high tech devices) (Gitlow, 2021). Furthermore, those with mental health disabilities may be less likely to ask for AT (Gitlow, 2021). Research and advocacy is imperative for providing the highest quality of life to those in need. If no one is there to advocate for disabilities, no change would occur. As of now, there are non-profit organizations, such as the Assistive Technology Industry Association, that advocate for regulations and laws to be passed regarding the admission of those disabled into the workplace and overall provision of AT.
