"Chandler Christy’s “I Wish I Were a Man” poster is a great example of the artist’s well-known strategy of illustrating rosy-cheeked, red-lipped, attractive women to draw the attention of young heterosexual men to join the military. This particular “Christy Girl,” as they were commonly known, provocatively combines masculine and feminine features to flirtatiously compel men to enlist in the Navy. In having her state “GEE! I WISH I WERE A MAN,” the poster not only suggests that joining the military is an opportunity for men to become more sexually attractive to the opposite sex, but that the decision not to enlist is emasculating".
https://apps.lib.ua.edu/blogs/worldwariposters/gee-i-wish-i-were-a-man/

“For Every Fighter a Woman Worker. Care For Her Through the YWCA” was a poster published in WWI to recruit women to the Young Women's Christian Organization (YWCA). During WWI, many jobs opened up for women due to men being sent to war. Women were needed in factories to help provide for the war effort. The poster shows a woman standing tall while holding a miniature fighter and an artillery shell. The feminine stance and figure is saying that femininity will not be compromised due to working in factories. This is telling women that the work they are doing is for the good of the country and that they will be honored because of it. In reality, the conditions that many women workers faced were terrible. Working with big machinery, explosives, and poisonous gases was very dangerous and many women did not receive the proper equipment or training to deal with these circumstances. The fatalities and other casualties caused by these conditions were not awarded with medals and were hardly recognized until many years later. This poster was commissioned by the YWCA to Adolph Treidler in 1918. Treidler was an American artist and illustrator best known for his advertisement work and his propaganda posters. This poster was created and reproduced as a lithographic print at the time of its distribution".
https://knowledge.e.southern.edu/wwiposters/74/

A lot of mental health issues come from a bad childhood. By creating a positive and nurturing environment for children, we can help them grow up to be happy, healthy, and well-adjusted adults. They involve patterns of control, manipulation, disrespect, abuse, and a lack of healthy communication. Whether it's with a romantic partner or family member, toxic relationships can have a severe impact on your well-being and self-esteem. It's crucial to recognise the signs of toxicity and understand that staying in such relationships can prevent personal growth, happiness, and overall good mental health. Leaving a toxic relationship allows you to prioritize your well-being, find healthier connections, and create a positive environment for personal growth and happiness.

There are so many animals around the world suffering from being used for entertainment, food, medicine, fashion, scientific advancement, and as exotic pets. For example, foxes are loved for their fur in the fashion industry. Finland is the world's leading producer of fox pelts and it produces over 1 million fox pelts a year. These farms have rows and rows of caged animals living in cruel conditions only to satisfy a person who wants a new fur coat. And this is just one example - there are many other animals suffering because of people. They deserve to stretch every part of their body (from nose to tail), and run, jump, play and not fear their lives being put at risk. Supporting animal freedom and speaking up about it means contributing to a more harmonious coexistence between humans and the natural world.

Kindness is a cause worth dedicating ourselves to, it’s a commitment to bring light to the darkest corners of our world. It means standing up against discrimination, hatred, and prejudice, and promoting empathy, compassion, and understanding as something we need to do. A simple act of kindness can do the most beautiful things and sometimes we forget about that. A warm and greeting smile, sunny “thank you” or “have a great day” can leave a footprint for something bigger. We should actively seek opportunities to uplift others, to lend a helping hand to those in need to be the voice for the voiceless, and to extend compassion even when it is difficult. Why couldn’t we jump into kindness like we do with trends and opinions so that each act of kindness becomes a shining light. Only with our own actions we can light up the flame of kindness in others, creating a ripple effect that spreads far and wide. Kindness here and there is the beginning for a collective movement that requires collaboration and unity. With kindness we believe in the goodness that lives within every human heart to recognize the immense power of small acts and of genuine care. I do believe that kindness can triumph over adversity and bring forth the change our world so desperately needs and that is why I am willing to fight for kindness.

Large numbers of scared and deceived animals end up in animal shelters every year. Here are a couple of reasons why you should choose an animal from a shelter:

First, you give them another chance in life to be loved. In their past lives, some may have been abused, abandoned, or had to fend for themselves on the streets. By adopting, you give the dog or cat a safe and loving home in which it can learn to trust again.

Secondly, each adoption saves a life. By choosing adoption, you directly contribute to reducing overcrowded shelters and the unfortunate reality of euthanasia. Every adopted pet creates space for another one to find refuge and hope.

Finally, opting for adoption means saying no to unethical breeding practices and the commercialization of innocent lives. Take a stand against irresponsible breeding by giving a loving home to a shelter animal. By choosing adoption, you promote a more humane world.

Share your love with those who need it most!

Our planet is getting more and more polluted by us. Everyone is talking about it, but barely any of us are doing anything about it. But it is very important, every little thing, like picking up a bottle from ground, sorting out paper, plastic and glass in the right containers, even buying groceries with your own bags, it all makes the situation better. Of course, one human can’t make a global difference, but imagine, what would happen if everyone did those little things. Our planet would become much better place. By doing small things, we can make a big impact. We have to be friends with our nature, not an enemies. At the end of the day, it is the place where we live and always will live. Start today.

Once the celebration is over most of them are given away to a shelters, but less fortunate don't end up in the shelters, but rather are dumped on the streets and other places where no one can see the pets being abandoned. It is a grave violation of the rights of children and an issue that demands urgent attention. Child labor should be stopped for the sake of our children, our society, and our shared future. It is our moral duty to preserve the sanctity of childhood, provide access to quality education, protect the health and well-being of children, break the cycle of poverty, uphold ethical standards, and foster sustainable development. We have to choose products which have been made ethically, even if they cost a little bit more

A mother-daughter relationship is unique and beautiful, but it can often be very hurtful, distressing and distanced, so a lot of daughters feel the need to stay silent, to avoid contact or express hate. It is important to realize you will always still be your mothers child and all the pain that you allow to build up in yourself will stay there. Especially when the day comes when your mother is not around anymore. All the questions you didn’t ask about her life will be unanswered. All the conflict that you didn’t resolve will remain heavy in your chest. This lives as regret. And even worse is that the pain that we carry also gets passed on to our children.

How to make sure this does not happen? Talk to your mom! Ask her about her experience, her mistakes and her hurt. Ask about womanhood and friends. Ask about her happiest memories and the things you did that made her feel love. Understand that she also received a lot of hate simply because she is a woman. Tell her your feelings. Tell her you love her.

Clothing produced by fast fashion brands are often made from cheap materials, like polyester and acrylic that don’t last for long. These clothes poses serious environmental and social problems. Fast fashion generates massive textile waste, contributes to CO2 emissions, causes water pollution and exploitation of underpaid workers. To address these issues, individuals can adopt sustainable practices. For example, buying less, extending the lifespan of clothing, shopping in thrift stores and supporting eco-fashion brands that use eco-friendly fabrics. By embracing these solutions we can help to reduce waste and environmental issues.

Access to Abortion is a Human Right

"Bog terpel i nam velel" (translated: "God has suffered and has commanded us to do the same")

If I had to choose one thing to stand up for, I'd stand up for women's right to abortion. At first glance, it may seem like a strange topic to talk about in 2023, but currently, there are 24 countries in the world where abortion is completely banned (including Andorra and Malta in Europe and some states in the U.S.), and more than 50 countries allow abortions only if the woman's health is at risk (including Poland).
Evidence shows that banning abortions reduces the number of LEGAL abortions. But at the same time, the number of illegal abortions is increasing because the demand (surprise) DOES NOT DECREASE!
in 2021, the Polish Parliament passed a law that criminalises abortions, with an exception if continuing the pregnancy endangers the woman's life and if the pregnancy is the result of a criminal act. The law was proposed by the conservative party and passed with the majority of votes of male MPs. Isn't it great that the majority of voters for the abortion ban come from people who CANNOT have an abortion? They'll never have to go through this in their lives, but they feel rightful to take away the personal choice to have an abortion from half the population of their country.
This photo was taken in 2021, a few days after I found out about this new law. I felt angry, hopeless and completely devastated for all women in Poland. I wanted to scream and that's how I portrayed it.
It's easy to be pro-life when you don't see the direct impact of the law. You see numbers and charts with the decrease in registered abortions, but you don't see the frightened eyes of a woman who doesn't want to have a baby, who feels completely alone and who is probably thinking through all possible scenarios of how she can have an abortion at home without professional help or is willing to pay a lot of money to have it done by amateurs in unsanitary places. These are the options women have in Poland, Malta, Egypt, Iraq and many other countries.

The phrase "God suffered and commanded us to do the same" represents all people who are pro-life and believe that the suffering of women in this case is justified because it serves the common good. It also embodies people who take a passive stance on the issue, thinking that it doesn't affect them and that "we all have our problems." It may not affect you directly, but it affects your sister, your mother, your friend. The world should see and hear them and you can help!

Imagine living inside a locked closet without any control over any aspect of your life. You can’t choose when and what you eat, how you will spend your time, whether or not you will have a partner and children, or who that partner will be. You can’t even decide when the lights go on and off.

Think about spending your entire life like this, a prisoner, even though you have committed no crime. This is life for an animal in a laboratory. It is deprivation, isolation, and misery.

On top of the deprivation, there are the experiments. U.S. law allows animals to be burned, shocked, poisoned, isolated, starved, drowned, addicted to drugs, and brain-damaged. No experiment, no matter how painful or trivial, is prohibited – and pain-killers are not required. Even when alternatives to the use of animals are available, the law does not require that they be used—and often they aren’t.

Animals are infected with diseases that they would never normally contract, tiny mice grow tumors as large as their own bodies, kittens are purposely blinded, rats are made to suffer seizures, and primates’ skulls are cut open and electrodes are implanted in them. Experimenters force-feed chemicals to animals, conduct repeated surgeries on them, implant wires in their brains, crush their spines, and much more.

After enduring these terrifying, painful procedures, animals are then usually dumped back into a cage without any painkillers. Video footage from inside laboratories shows animals who cower in fear every time someone walks by their cages. They don’t know if they will be dragged from their prison cells for an injection, blood withdrawal, a painful procedure, surgery, or death. Often they see other animals killed right in front of them.

No animals are safe from experimentation—cats, dogs, fish, mice, pigs, primates, rabbits, and rats are just a few of the species routinely used in these tests.

Everyone needs to be aware of this situation that I would call a crime and speak up about it. The scale of this issue demands a much faster resolution

For years, industry organizations have been pointing to the underfunding of higher education in general. Financing of higher education in 2008 - from the state budget had reached the highest point - 243.7 million. EUR, however, since the moment when funding was drastically reduced due to the economic crisis, its amount has not reached even half of the previously invested funds. For more than 13 years, higher education has not been a priority in the distribution of state budget funding, which has left lasting consequences. The insufficient amount of funds drives higher education into a circle of poverty, which leads to a decrease in the quality of education, the highest level of student employment in Europe, the implementation of study programs that do not correspond to the labor market, and one of the lowest percentages of students who have obtained higher education in Northern Europe.

But how it benefits the people?

Consumerism can have detrimental effects on personal well-being and mental health. The relentless pursuit of material possessions can create a sense of emptiness and dissatisfaction. Research suggests that placing excessive importance on materialistic goals is often associated with lower levels of happiness, increased stress, and decreased life satisfaction. The constant comparison with others, as well as the temporary nature of the happiness derived from material goods, can lead to a sense of never feeling truly satisfied.

The emphasis on material possessions can overshadow more meaningful aspects of life, such as personal growth, relationships, and experiences. Consumer culture often promotes individualism and self-centeredness, as people focus on their own desires and aspirations rather than communal well-being. This can erode social cohesion, diminish empathy, and contribute to a culture of superficiality and materialistic values.

Do material possessions equal happiness?

Self-judgment is the act of critically assessing and evaluating oneself. It involves analyzing our thoughts, behaviors, and achievements against our own internal standards or societal expectations. While self-judgment can be a useful tool for self-awareness and personal growth, it can also be a double-edged sword. On one hand, it allows us to recognize areas for improvement and motivates us to strive for excellence. On the other hand, excessive self-judgment can lead to feelings of self-doubt, low self-esteem, and a constant sense of falling short. It is important to approach self-judgment with a balanced perspective, embracing both our strengths and weaknesses. Instead of harshly criticizing ourselves, we can cultivate self-compassion and understanding. By practicing self-reflection and self-acceptance, we can foster a healthier mindset that allows us to learn from our mistakes, celebrate our accomplishments, and embrace our imperfections as part of our unique journey. Ultimately, self-judgment should be a tool for personal growth and self-improvement rather than a means of self-punishment or comparison to others.

Feminism has come a long way, but we still have a long way to go. There are some things only women can see, challenges like thorns along the way to reaching our goals, distasteful comments that pass by men's ears, stares you can almost feel at the back of your neck. A man will tell you, "Oh, you have your voting rights and the ability to get a job, what else do you need?" And you know, they will earnestly mean it, because how can they empathize with difficulties they have never faced, difficulties they can't even comprehend?

My gender almost feels like a title attached to me. If a man tells a joke, it's a joke, no matter how bad it may be, someone will laugh. If I tell a joke, it's a joke told by a woman. So it has to be good. Or else women aren't funny. If a man takes direct control and is bold, he is a leader. If I take control and am bold, well, who do I think I am? These little things, they seep deep into the consciousness not only of men, but women, and it's generational. Sometimes a woman can be a woman's worst enemy, as the need to appeal to the male gaze, to be seen as attractive, poisons the mind and makes other women look like competition.

If the "normal" woman is quiet, modest, shy and accepting of everything so as not to cause an argument, and we continue to operate according to this "normal", there won't be a future that is female. I would rather live out my life without any man than mutilate my spirit. I want to be one of the women who stand up.
