At first, we took four small tubes that could fit inside the big tubes and filled them up to 3/4 the tube height. We filled one small tube with starch, the second with glucose, the third with water, and the fourth tube with sucrose. Afterwards, we added one gram of yeast on the top of the solutions in the small tubes and filled the rest of them with water. After filling it with water, which filled the small tubes to 100%, we had to shake the tubes up and place them upside down in a bigger tube without any content falling out of the small tube. Later on, we put the tubes in the incubator for around 25 minutes. After that time period was over, we discovered that the carbon dioxide (CO2) made the small tubes rise. The tube with the sucrose solution rose the most (3 inches) and the tube with the starch solution rose the least (0 inches) because glucose was used from sucrose to create the most carbon dioxide out of all the other substances.

There are two different kinds of fermentation. The first kind is lactic acid fermentation, which is when the body starts producing energy when in lack of oxygen. When it is produced in the muscles, it is extremely painful. The second type of fermentation is alcoholic fermentation in which plants and bacteria make due to lack of oxygen. Neither one of the fermentations requires oxygen.
