This book reminds me of LOTR vaguely.  The whole fantasy theme is very abundant throughout both series.  
Also, in The Chronicles of Narnia, people go on an adventure, much like in LOTR. 
Furthermore, they both came out around the same time.  LOTR first came out in 1954, and the final book for The Chronicles of Narnia came out in 1954, however, the books were starting to be written in 1939.
HOWEVER, The Hobbit, which is the prequel to LOTR, came out in 1937.

I can somewhat relate to the two children in the book, mainly because they're both exceedingly venturesome people!
