We have a recycling program at our school, but there are times during the year that people are not as diligent about recycling. For example, when students clean out their lockers at the end of the year, they tend to much of the paper out instead of recycling it. We could organized a "campaign" the week before school ends to remind everybody to recycle. We would then need to make sure that there are enough extra recycling boxes available to handle the surplus recycling during that period. For a program that goes beyond the classroom, we could ask students to challenge their families to make one change to benefit the environment. Change in family life at home can foster broader change.

I think planning games or activities for students to do during their breaks can raise awareness.

It is also important to implement practical changes that assist children in their efforts to protect the environment, such as having bins for recycling that are accessible to students.

Setting an example is paramount. If teachers make responsible choices such as recycling and riding a bike or car-pooling to school children will learn that change is possible!

I have registered my 6th graders to a program Make A Difference. It combines cooperation of science and English teachers. Besides teaching them relevant vocabulary, the most important is to arise in them awareness of how really important is to take care of our environment. To make them realize that climate changes are not is the future, it is happening here and now and everyone has to take active part in doing whatever he can to help our Earth. The aim of the program is that every group of pupils comes up with an activity they can do in order to make a change in our environment. Also, an important part is to spread the news to other people.

First of all, we need to raise awareness by sharing facts, statistics, and solutions can inspire others to take action.

We can do a lot of activities in the classroom, but the most important thing that we can do with kids at school is recycling . It is fun and educational for them. They can collect recyclable materials , create a recycling station.

At school, I can help reduce climate change by saving electricity, recycling paper and plastic, using less paper, and encouraging my classmates to be more environmentally friendly. I can also suggest projects like planting trees or creating posters to raise awareness about climate change.

1. What can you do about climate change in your school?
In my school, I can help reduce waste by using less paper, recycling properly, and encouraging classmates to turn off lights and computers when they are not in use. I can also take part in awareness activities like posters or short presentations about climate change to remind others how important it is to protect the environment.

2. Is there any activity you can initiate outside the classroom?
Yes, I can start or join a tree-planting activity in my community or schoolyard. I can also help organize a “clean-up day” in local parks or streets to reduce litter. Another idea is to encourage friends and family to reduce plastic use, for example by using reusable bags and bottles.

An Energy & Water "Audit" Patrol

The Idea: Turn students into environmental detectives who investigate how the school uses resources.

How it Works: Armed with clipboards, students patrol the school hallways, empty classrooms, and outdoor areas during recess or after school. They look for energy leaks (lights left on, devices plugged in) or water waste (dripping outdoor faucets). They can leave friendly, student-designed "Thank You for Saving Energy" notes or "Friendly Reminders" on classroom doors.

The Climate Connection: Burning fossil fuels for electricity is a primary driver of climate change. Conserving power directly cuts down those emissions.

In my school, I can create a “Climate Action Corner” in the classroom. Every week, students can add one small action in English, such as using less paper, closing the lights, bringing a reusable bottle, or walking instead of using a car. This connects climate change to language learning and makes students feel that even small actions matter.

Outside the classroom, I can start a “Green Walk” project. Students can walk around the school area, take photos of places that need care, such as litter, wasted water, or too much plastic, and then prepare short English messages to raise awareness. We can share the photos and messages with parents and the school community. This way, students become active citizens, not only learners.
