Introduction:

Follow along to your heart's desire, but remember the warning we heed. Stay true to you, never forget, and let your heart forever sing.
Our story begins on a beautiful Summer's day in the kingdom of Kanica. The sweet wind blew to and fro, and smelled of fresh bread baking in the earliest of dawn. Wide willow trees swayed like grass with the air and did not seem to mind. Our story begins here, with a young girl playing with her hound.
"Pilot. Why do you trouble me so? Everyday, when I throw the stick, you come back and jab me with it." The girl laughed, how she loved to played with Pilot.
This is Liyah, and not a care ever passed through her mind. For Liyah, life was a gift to be cherished and loved each and every day. At that moment, she adorned her hair with small wildflowers that made her eyes shine.
Long ago, a war broke out in the country of Troy, and with it, took the lives of Liyah's beloved parents. At the time, she was six and her little brother was two. Now, ten years after, Liyah was grown, and her brother, Fletcher, was nearly there too. Once word spread of the death of her guardians, Liyah and Fletcher were sent to live with their neighbor, Althias Auberworth. Many of the local merchants thought that this was an ill decision, for Althias was abominably rude and unaware of anything in reality. Very cruel, and very arrogant.
"Liyah! Liyah!" said a far off and high-pitched voice. A smaller figured came dashing into view. Liyah quickly turned into the opposing direction and squinted her eyes into snake-like slits.
It was little-brother Fletcher.
"Liyah, we have to go! It is time to go home. I don't want to get in trouble." said Fletcher as he got closer to the circumference around Liyah and Pilot.
Liyah gave a forlorn sigh.
"I know, dear brother, it is time to depart for home isn't it?"
Fletcher nodded glumly.
Hand-in-hand and with Pilot trotting along, Fletcher and Liyah walked back to the sad house that rested in shambles.
When they reached home, Althais was asleep, but they did not mind. Today was a special day, for the Demigod, Thelta was visiting her yearly trip.
"Oh, Fletcher! It is Visiting Day! We must leave for the square! I can't wait to catch a glimpse of Thelta." It was always a sight of revelry, for she is the demigod of the Earth. She controls the weather. However, since she is part human, her abilities only go so far.
When Liyah, Fletcher, and Pilot arrived in town, it looked like a sea. Many people flocked here to witness greatness. In that moment, trumpets flared announcing the arrival of Thelta. She came into Kanica in an open carriage, waving her tan hand to the public. Many cheered, and the excitement became too much for Pilot, the little hound. With one quick jerk of the braided twine wrapped around him, he was out of Liyah's grip and running for Thelta, a glimmering star in the sun.
"Pilot! Come back here!" said Liyah. She ran after him; ignoring the onlooking tumult.
Pilot ran up to the airy cart and jumped, and he landed in the lap of the Demigod. Thelta gasped. The crowd went silent.
"For whose dog is this?" Thelta asked.
Liyah stumbled forward. "It is mine."
"This is absurd, I am above thee and this is unexcusable."
"I am sorry." said Liyah. "I thought I had to tight grip on the rope, but he got so excited-" Thelta looked at Liyah disdainfully.
"No, no excuses. For this problem, I shall take your hound. No questions asked." said Thelta, for she was very angry.
"No! Please!"
"Too late, we must go. Guards, lead me out of the gates; fast."
As she sped away, Pilot leaped to look out of the carriage and was crying for Liyah to save him from this adversity.

The Journey:

The expedition to find Pilot was going to be a long one. Over mountain valleys and hills, Liyah and Fletcher trekked after their missing hound. Fletcher brought Pilot's favorite rope leash, bones, sticks, and a profusion of treats. Liyah told herself that when they find Pilot, she was going to lavish him with love. She had an aura of ardor for finding Pilot. Before they began the long journey, Liyah asked around, and discovered a map of the destinations of Thelta's travels. Fletcher began reading of some of the places Thelta has been in the past years. "The kingdom of Kanica, Valia, and Solomers. Perhaps, if we follow the Northern Road and stick to it, we will find them before she leaves to her permanent home." After a few more hours, a ravenous beast arose in their stomachs.
"Liyah," said Fletcher "when will we stop to eat, my stomach won't stop growling." Liyah agreed with Fletcher and off in the distance they saw the town of Valia. Fletcher's first thought was food, but Liyah's was Pilot. The siblings looked at each other and ran all the way to the town in hopes of finding what they wanted the most. Once in to town, they split up; Liyah went to go find Pilot, and Fletcher went straight to the cafe down the street.
"Hey, Fletcher!" said Liyah, "I think I found something." Fletcher came running to her call, but not before stuffing his face with the rest of the muffin he bought. Liyah called him to the sight of a little pet shelter.
"Why would you think that Thelta would bring Pilot here?" said Fletcher.
Liyah had a glum look on her face even before they had walked in.
Fletcher and Liyah had been talking on the way to Valia. Fletcher had been a negative person, and Liyah was just blocking it out, but in front of the pet shelter, it all hit her. Liyah went in anyways in hopes to find her dog, but no hope shown through. Once again, Fletcher went on with an aloof tone in his voice, "Liyah, why are we looking for a dog, our parents died and we did just fine, and now we are looking for a silly dog!"
"Fletcher!" snapped Liyah, "why are you always like this? Just when things get hard does not mean you give up." Fletcher and Liyah kept trudging their way, but not with as much hope as they came with. Liyah started throwing out ideas of places Fletcher and her could go and look.
"Sommers, what else?" Fletcher shook is head back and forth and shrugged his shoulders.
"Well I guess we will go there." said Liyah with a sigh.
Before they reached Solomers, Liyah and Fletcher set up camp for the night. As Liyah began to slip into deep slumber, a vivid dream came to view. A glowing figure floated down to where she was laying.
"Liyah..." said the figure.
"Hello?" said Liyah.
"I am Athena, and I have witnessed your recent perils dear child."
Liyah did not move, and even though she was asleep, she remained motionless.
"I am here to give you guidance. Follow your heart to find your loss. Do not fret, for you are so close to the end." Athena smiled, and Liyah asked, "Will I find Pilot? Will you guide me?"
"Even if I am not visible, I am here." She pointed to Liyah's head and then said, "Remember that without love, we are lost."
With that, Athena was gone, and Liyah slept a dreamless sleep, with knowing that Athena's visit was availing talk.

At sunset on the 21st day, Liyah and Fletcher trudged up the last hill that blocked their view from the orange hues of the sun.
"We are almost there," said Fletcher. "I can feel it."
"You seem hopeful, brother." said Liyah.
This was a formidable turn of events, for Fletcher was never cheerful for this journey except for now. If only the Fates had a better future for him. When they reached the apex of the summit, they were caught off guard. In a nook of the hill, the adversary's camp was set up. Liyah searched the small camp and found her little Pilot, tied to a post. No matter how hard he squirmed, the post was not pliant.
"Oh, Pilot! Look at him down there! He is tied to a stick and is suffering." she was on the brink of tears. The wind howled from the east, and tonight, it did not smell sweet, it smelled like death. Thelta had a plan, a plan no one else knew except for her.
"We must go down there." said Liyah.
"We can't, no, if we go, we will be dead." Fletcher sounded scared. He always seemed to use rancor when he spoke. Liyah knew this journey was to be much more difficult for him.
"Fletcher. Just five minutes ago, you were overjoyed of the idea of finding our Pilot. What changed your outlook?" Liyah was very confused.
"I just think that this is very silly for us to be risking our lives for a dog." Fletcher pointed towards the camp and looked down at it. Disgust filled Liyah.
"Fine. Do what you will; however, I am going to rescue my family. You can stay here if you wish, or you can go back to Kanica." Liyah threw her hands up in frustration and began striding towards the camp.
"Wait," said Fletcher, "Okay, I'll come but please don't be angry with me."
"We are brother and sister, Fletcher. We are to fight once in a while." Liyah smiled.
They were only about one hundred feet from the camp when life seemed to speed up. In that moment, Thelta looked up from ordering around innocent servants when she spotted Pilot's family.
"How dare they come upon us? They have no right coming here. I have only taken what is rightfully mine." Thalta stated holding her head very high.
"Demigod Thelta, we have come to reclaim our lost family member. He is not a property item of yours. Pilot is part of our clan." said Liyah in a loud, booming voice.
"You stand no chance against me. I am higher above than thee."
"However, you are also part human. You have a heart." said Fletcher. Liyah smiled at him. She was proud.
Thelta's face turned red, and her hands clinched into rock-like fists.
The ground began to rumble and tremor, but in the mist of it all, Thelta was the only thing that stay in a still form. This was her doing.
A large crack broke through the ground separating Liyah and Fletcher, and before they could react, the rock that Fletcher was standing on started to fall away.
"No one stands against me. Now you will face the consequences." said Thelta.
Liyah jumped and reached out for Fletcher's hand. He was already four feet under the ground. The Earth was ravaged from the sudden tremulous force.
His fingers were stretched to the braking point, and they only brushed through Liyah's hand before the ground vanished beneath him. Fletcher was gone.
"NO!" screamed Liyah. Fletcher was all she had left.
An extensive hole was next to Liyah. She was sobbing, and Pilot was barking and howling for Liyah.
Her face reached Thelta's glowering countenance.
"You. You took my brother! Why?" said Liyah.
"Consequences."
Liyah bolted up and ran for Thelta. Thelta was human, pain was real. In one swift movement, Thelta was pinned and tied to the ground. The guards that traveled with the Demigod did not like her, so when Liyah looked towards them, they only nodded and clapped.
Thelta screamed in frustration.
"Pilot! There you are! Fletcher and I-" Liyah broke off mid-sentence. However, she remembered that he shall not die in vain and then decided to take Thelta to Kanica for King Iddytheo to deal with. The journey home seemed shorter, and for most of it, Liyah slept with Pilot nestled in close.

When Liyah, Thelta, and her guards arrived in Kanica, they immediately went to King Iddytheo's palace.
Though, when they tried to tell him the story, he seemed somewhat self-absorbed.
"Your Highness, Demigod Thelta murdered a mortal, kidnapped, and abused her abilities. I ask of you to help me seek justice for her wrong doings." Said Liyah. King Iddytheo looked at Liyah, and only thought of one thing; restitution.
"Did you find any riches that would belong to me to add to the treasury?" Asked King Iddytheo.
"No," said Liyah, skeptically. "We never mentioned money; I just want justice for my family."
It was obvious to Liyah that King Iddytheo was what she viewed as any other king she has ever heard of. He was selfish and arrogant, and their was nothing he would do for her without some form of money exchange. At least he spoke with candor towards the subject.
Without even asking, the guards took Thelta and drug her down to the dungeons, in which she could not escape from.
Liyah was confused on this sudden act of kindness from the guards, but then understood it. These brave soldiers believed in fairness and love.
"Thank you," said Liyah. "Thank you for helping me."
Finally, with that, she left the palace with Pilot thinking of the road ahead and never looking back.
