Those people thought that everything should be done in the way that God would do it or how the Bible says to do it. They thought that people should go more with the traditional way of how they did things. Many people in the 1920s went against some of the things that they believed in, which caused a problem with the fundamentalist.

Mass hysteria fell upon the people of America and many citizens were quick to accuse people of being a communist. An example of this is the case of Sacco and Vanzetti. The nation's total wealth more than doubled between 1920 and 1929, and this economic growth swept many Americans into an affluent but unfamiliar “consumer society.” With the end of World War I and the passage of the Eighteenth Amendment, Americans entered the distinctive 1920s — an era of Republican leadership, nationalistic and fundamentalist movements, and changing social conventions.

This played a huge role in the Great Depression because with this peak in consumerism it lead to credit and installment plans and the overall idea of "buy now, pay later". This caused a bit of a problem that is most similar to a college student with a credit card because they get carried away. Same things happened with these people, they were buying appliances and soon enough they were racking up big debt because those small installment plans and credit started piling together. This resulted in people having no money, the appliances being taken away, and living in poverty.
