Several of my students do not see the connection between what they are doing in school and what they need for their future.

Play helps in the overall development of

the child.

1️⃣ Physical Health – Play keeps children active, improving fitness, coordination, and overall well-being. 🏃‍♂️

2️⃣ Social Skills – Through play, children learn cooperation, communication, and empathy. 🤝

3️⃣ Emotional Well-being – Play reduces stress, boosts confidence, and fosters resilience. 💛

4️⃣ Cognitive Growth – It enhances creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking. 🧠

I agree with professor Pasi Sahlberg that play enhances and encourages skills like creativity, critical thinking, empathy, problem solving skills, negotiation skills, leadership and many others.

I'll definitely plan to have more play-based activities/projects in my lessons.

What is AI? Technology that analyses its environment and acts with some autonomy and can adapt to achieve goals.

Searching a bit more about specific examples, sprint planning caught my attention:

Sprint Planning for Student-Led Learning

Example: Introduce short, focused learning cycles (1-2 weeks) where students:

• Set small, achievable learning goals at the start of a sprint.

• Work towards those goals using guided inquiry.

• Reflect on progress and adapt their learning strategies based on challenges.

• Share findings with peers through short "stand-up meetings."

Outcome: Promotes student agency, responsibility, and adaptability.

To what extent is the agility affected

by the standardised assessments and external examinations?

The world we live in - The world they will live in.

This presentation highlights an essential transformation in education. Moving away from rigid, teacher-centered models toward student-centered, collaborative, and real-world learning is crucial. Embracing ambiguity and adaptability will better prepare students for an uncertain future. However, while change is necessary, we must ensure a balance between foundational knowledge and progressive approaches to maintain academic rigor.

Too many platforms - not sure which ones the ‘right one’ - needs a wider discussion perhaps at an organisational level.

Teacher's emotional intelligence is key as the driver of inclusion.

1. Comprehensive school: the students go through similar types of comprehensive schools from Early Years to high schools.

2. Higher Education: every one goes to the same school for 9 or 10 years and get options to learn  skill

3. Dual system: students spend little time in school and most of the time in a work place. They have different kinds of apprenticeships programs.

I was pleased to attend the Teaching & Learning Forum today and even more delighted to see such a strong turnout. It was a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces, including colleagues I hadn’t seen in a while and those who were once part of Qatar Academy Al Khor.

One of the highlights for me was the incredible networking experience. It was inspiring to meet educators from different schools within QF and beyond, as well as experts from around the world. Engaging in meaningful discussions and exchanging insights truly enriched the experience.

Key Takeaways I Found Valuable:

*   Playtime, whether at school or home, free or structured, indoor or outdoor, is essential for children's growth and development. Attached, you will find a photo outlining different types of play and examples of each, as well as another image highlighting the four key benefits of play.

Despite the barriers discussed by Mr. Pasi today, such as the Factory Model of Education, the Academic Model of Intelligence, and the Transition Model of Learning, I believe that early years and primary teachers have deep expertise in this area and can offer valuable insights. However, I encourage all of us to take a moment to reflect:

-How effectively are we integrating real engagement in play-based activities?

-Are we providing children with enough opportunities to grow and explore through age-appropriate play?

Additionally, the 21st Century Skills framework presented today emphasized critical areas that we, as educators, must consider when planning and teaching. Please take a moment to review the attached image on 21st Century Skills and reflect on how we can further embed these competencies into our classrooms.

*   The 10 global trends in Education : Digital Transformation & Systems Consolidation, AI & Learning Personalization, Inadequate Supply of High-Quality Teachers, Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), STEM& STEAM Education, Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality ( AR) , & Immersive Learning, Data Driven Decision Making, Sustainability & Climate Education, Equity & Inclusion in Education and Hybrid & Blended Learning Models. A Moment of Reflection: from my perspective, our school is already doing a lot, and while we may not fully implement every emerging trend just yet, that’s perfectly fine. However, I can see that many of our current practices already align with key areas such as sustainability, social-emotional learning (SEL), data-driven decision-making, STEM, and more.

If you are integrating any of these trends, even in small, gradual steps, take a moment to celebrate your progress and use it as motivation to build on it further.

I’d also like to pause here and draw your attention to an important area for reflection and planning: AI & Learning Personalization. This is a crucial aspect that both teachers and leaders should consider as we shape the future of education. Let’s take the time to explore how we can integrate AI-driven tools and personalized learning approaches to better support our students' needs.

*   In the Agile Learning session, we explored how Agile is a mindset: one that prioritizes flexibility, collaboration, and continuous improvement. It’s not about doing more work, but rather about doing the right work, in a better way. One concept that stood out to me is the role of a "Scrum Master", a facilitator who ensures that Agile principles are applied, helps the team stay productive, removes obstacles, and supports progress without micromanaging. This brings me to a key reflection question for me and you:

Where do you see yourself in this approach? Do you think you fit into this category as a facilitator who supports progress, removes roadblocks, and fosters a productive environment? (If you are interested in more readings, I attached a photo of two books recommended by the presenter).

*   Finally, an Optimistic Vision & A Concern: I’d like to share both an optimistic vision and a concern. In the final session by Mr. Pasi, the keynote speaker, he presented global statistics from Western countries, highlighting trends that are increasing and others that are declining. While data-driven decision-making is on the rise globally, student achievement and the status of the teaching profession have declined.

-The Optimistic View:

Despite these challenges, I remain optimistic because we are working hard to improve student achievement. While we may not be where we want to be yet, we must believe in the power of data, but only if we interpret it correctly, translate it into meaningful action plans, monitor it effectively, and continuously reflect and adjust. If we stay committed, we can make a difference. Never give up!

-The Challenge:

Our students live in a rapidly changing world, exposed to endless learning resources and distractions. This can make them easily disengaged and unmotivated.

So, I ask you to reflect:

*   What can we do to keep students engaged and motivated?

*   How can we ensure that our teaching strategies truly captivate and inspire them?

_A question that I saw and really feel it is important for us to ask regularly: What next? The answer might be:” We can’t keep doing the same thing and expect different results.”

It is a challenge for all of us, but it is possible! Together, through collaboration, innovation, and persistence, we can empower our students and elevate learning.
