In the beginning, it was frustrating – I couldn’t get my drawings to look the way I wanted them to. But I kept at it, and slowly but surely, my skills started to improve. I read books on how to draw, watched watercolor pencil tutorial online, and practised for hours every day. It took a lot of hard work, but eventually, I got to the level where I am today. So if you’re wondering how I learned to draw so well, that’s the secret: practice, practice, practice!

To draw a cat, you will need:

 

Watercolor pencils: These are my absolute favorite pencils to use when drawing a cat. They have a nice, creamy texture that makes them perfect for shading and blending.

 

Hot Press Watercolor Paper: This type of paper has a smooth surface that’s perfect for detailed work. It’s also thinner than other types of paper, so it won’t buckle when you add wet media.

 

Masking tape: This is optional, but I like to use it when I’m drawing a cat. It helps to keep the paper in place and prevents it from moving around while you’re working.

 

Board to tape paper to: This is also optional, but I find it helpful to have a firm surface to tape my paper to. It just makes the whole process a little easier.

 

Pencil: Any pencil will do, but I prefer to use a mechanical pencil because it doesn’t need to be sharpened.

 

Water bucket: This is for rinsing your brush after each stroke.

These are the supplies that I used when I was first starting out. You may find that you need more or less – it all depends on your personal preference. For example, some people like to use a pen instead of a pencil, or they may prefer to use thicker paper. It’s really up to you! Just experiment until you find what works best for you.
