For this project, I think I would like to explore a sense of absence. I don't have an exact word for it, but I found it to be pretty interesting that there was still a sense of activity and life without an actual figure being in the photo. I would like to explore this idea/concept more.

I would like to tie some themes from my film as literature course for this project. The main ideas in the course are spectatorship and the act of viewing. My idea is to recreate the frames from the films we watch in the class, focusing on ones that are important to these concepts.

For this project, I am trying to take a lot of high shutter speed, stop motion photos of my friend skateboarding. My goal is to make it clean and awesome. Hopefully at a skatepark. Trying to make it look like a Vans commercial with some graphic design as well. Maybe even some sound/

For this project, I struggled to come up with a creative prompt, so I decided to take portraits of my girlfriend. I spend most of my time taking sports photos, so I was happy I got the chance to work outside my comfort zone, and take some portraits, as this is a style I am not very experienced in or comfortable with.

The working theme for my final project it to take a journalistic approach of capturing images in the world of Police, Fire, and EMS. The medium that i would like to eventually capture these photos on is film, and i want to try and use my medium format camera. My reason for capturing these photos would be to capture the dramatic life of first responders and their tools they use on a daily bases. The plan for this is to go into my own work space in EMS and capture photos documenting the tools, scenes and the people as EMT's, Paramedic's, Critical Care Medic's, and or Flight Nurses.

Meet Jo! I've been babysitting her all year. Their house is deep in the woods, surrounded by about 5 miles of beautiful nature trails. It often feels like my oasis from campus, especially when the weather is nice and Jo is in a good mood. I plan to capture that feeling of getting a break from my normal day outside in the sunshine.

The old Gibson guitar factory on the North side of Kalamazoo used to be the practice space for the Kalamazoo Academy of Rock a middle school and high school program. My brother and I were both a part of the program for years and my dad took over the org.

My project is going to be called “The Face of K” the message behind it is how delves into the experiences of people of color on campus, particularly those here for athletics, and scholarships (like Posse scholars), and how our presence is often seen as merely a way to boost diversity statistics, I’ll be shooting around the fab setting and classrooms for a more institutional setting and I decided i’m going to include more people of color from other backgrounds to this project.

Idea Proposal #2

The idea behind this project is to explore the relationship between spectators and the spectacle. This idea comes from the film as literature course I’m taking, where we are looking at concepts of apparatus theory, and connecting it to thoughts about how we as spectators enter into and engage with film. Through recreating frames depicting the act of “looking” within a few films on the syllabus, and placing them alongside original images of “the spectator” I am trying to visually represent the gap between the audience and film.
