Ernesto went to medical school for three years but then left. After he returned from his motorcycle trip, he finished medical school in 1953 at the University of Buenos Aires. Because of what he learned in school he was able to treat his asthma. On his trip he realized the inequalities and decided he wanted to focus his social medicine. He believed the the health and well being of individuals was a human right. He spoke out about his ideas and tried to get Cuba to improve their social work for the people of their country.
