The Fragata do Tejo School Group was created in the academic year 2004/2005 and is located in the village of Moita, whose head office is the Basic School of the 2nd and 3rd Cycles Fragata do Tejo. The group consists of seven schools, namely the Basic School of the 2nd and 3rd Cycles Fragata do Tejo, located in the village of Moita and six more elementary schools and kindergartens, in the parishes of Vila da Moita.

The Basic School of the 2nd and 3rd Cycles Fragata do Tejo consists of a monoblock building in the shape of H, with ground floor and 1st floor interconnected. In the outdoor spaces there are leisure areas and green landscaped spaces. Roşca Codreanu ”and from 1923 in that of the Primary School for boys no.1. The new educational institution, which had joined the other two major foci of culture in Bârlad High School „Gh. Roşca Codreanu ”(the fourth seniority in the old kingdom) and the“ Principele Ferdinand ”Normal School (the fifth in terms of headquarters), did not have a stable teaching staff, furniture or teaching materials.In this situation, a committee was formed with the aim of raising funds for its own building. The construction of the premises started in 1925 was partially finished in 1928, the inauguration of the new building taking place in a festive setting on October 11, 1936, also on the same day taking place the festive opening of the boarding school with the name “Dr. C. Angelescu ”.Over time, the "Iorgu Radu" Girls' High School in Bârlad underwent a series of transformations: from the girls' high school to the form of a 7-year elementary school and girls' high school (1948) until the transfer of all high school students within the school complex inaugurated in 1958.The education of Bârlad has undergone important transformations over the years as a result of the measures taken by the communist regime.Since 1996, the name of the school has been revived, respectively School no. 1 “Iorgu Radu”. Like the entire Romanian society and in the municipality of Bârlad, the period of transition to democracy has left its mark on all fields of activity. School no. 1, like the entire education in Bârlad, has been constantly active in order to achieve the objectives of the reform. Projects to activate learning and introduce new information and knowledge technologies are currently being developed.
