WHAT VACCINES DO WE HAVE?
Objectives:
a) Learn about vaccines, what are they and how do they work.
b) Being aware of what vaccines do they have.

Knowing this, explain in your own words how vaccines work.

2. Look for your vaccination card (your parents have it for sure!) and write the name of all the vaccines that you have on a grid that should have three columns : In the first column you will write the name of the disease, in the second the symptoms and in the third the consequences of the disease. 

But we’re sure there are more things you want to know about it in order to answer our initial question: “How can we contribute to the #BlackLivesMatter social movement?” 

 

a) Listen to the following 11’ video on EdPuzzle. It is an introduction to the main topic. You will learn new vocabulary, especially the vocabulary related to this social movement, and will get to know its history as well.
b) After the listening comprehension, students do the following activity; Police in the USA. They listen to the 1’19’’ video and read the transcript as well. Afterwards, they focus on new vocabulary related to news on police brutality: pierce (go), stand-off (standstill, stop), accusation (saying that something is wrong), embedded (set, fixed), spark (start).

2. READING (2 sessions)

a) Now you know what #BlackLivesMatter movement is and means… have you ever thought about black people's influence over you or your life? Have you ever noticed how many black people appear on TV series? How many black famous people do you know? Discuss it with your group and share your ideas in this noticeboard. b) It’s time to discover black people's contributions to the world! With your group, choose JUST ONE jigsaw. You will see it forms an incomplete timeline of a black personality. Read it carefully and then, find the group that completed the other part of the timeline and exchange the information (online meeting).

c) Now... explain it to your partners! Create a genial.ly (very visual!) to teach to the rest of the groups what you have learnt. Share it on Lino (the virtual noticeboard we used previously) and read also the others. Do you really notice now the importance of #BlackLivesMatter movement? Write your own reflection and opinion. 

4. FINAL PRODUCT. 

The final product is to plan and produce a speech for #blacklivesmatter movement at a secondary school. We  learnt in the previous activities some facts, truths and realities of the movement. Now we need to learn how to perform a good speech.

 a) What we will do first is project in class the mentimeter app (https://www.menti.com/ha3boe6brw) so everybody can give an opinion about the question “what do you think it is necessary to perform a good speech?” and we can start a discussion about the topic.
