Up until 2003 he held the highest number of patents. The first research lab in America is named after him. He ran against William Jennings Bryan, who was a democrat. The huge controversy at this time was what metal the U.S. would use to base their monetary system on. McKinley wanted gold to only be used, which was called Gold bugs and Bryan wanted gold and silver to be used, which was called Silverite. The Gold bugs obviously won. William McKinley is originally from Canton, Ohio, this is where he held his "Front Porch Campaign." One started in the east and worked west and the other started in the west and worked east. The Central Pacific railroad company started in the west and the Union Pacific railroad company started in the east. They both met in Promontory Point, Utah. The party also proposed to increase the money supply and income tax. They voted to not appoint senators, but to have a direct election instead. This also brought on a secret ballot. They wished for the POTUS and VPOTUS serve only a single term and to have an eight hour work day. The "Populist Party" soon dissolved, but many of the goals/ideas made their way into the Democratic Party. I didn't know that they were the main people who built the railroad. I had always assumed that it was only Americans who had built it. I really enjoy photography, mainly landscape photography.
