The play begins with a question and we are pushed into the action, we learn quickly the plot and that it will be the story of a revenge. But the main question is why Hamlet doesn’t not kill directly his uncle who murdered his father to access to the throne. We are expecting the death of Claudius. Another interrogation is Hamlet’s madness we don’t know precisely if he is pretending to be mad or if he becomes mad because of the events. But his first monologue shows that his mind is not clear, indeed it is hard to follow what he wants to say. The first act introduces the common theme in a tragedy, the hero doesn't know what he will do and it mostly the beginig of Hamlet's failure to act.

Where to begin, we saw the same thing but I listened to the ghost, in light of his speech, I can see much better what is going on. I believe we can’t just ignore such harbinger. Indeed, what we saw yesterday is a clear message, something is rotten in the state of Denmark.

The ghost who came last night and the nights before is truly my dead father who is back from the purgatory. I can’t reveal to you everything but I want to share my concerns on the political situation of Denmark. What happened and what will happen is terrible, while I am writing this letter my hands are still shaking. Our good king who came back to alert us showed me all we have to fear. Soon, I will have to do something, but for now, I must look distant so they won’t care about me. I hope in these desperate times to come we will still be good friends and someone I can trust.

Act 1

Hamlet, former king,

The great and honorable king Hamlet is dead, he was killed by a snake during his sleep. All of Denmark is mourning him. Indeed, they just organized a wedding with his own wife less than two months after his death.

Claudius,

The new king has just married the former queen and is more occupied with his wedding than he is with the king’s death. But he is now focused on the Fortinbras’ issue. Indeed, the situation worries him, he sent ambassadors and declared a kind of emergency state by reinforcing the guards and ordering the construction of weapons.

Hamlet,

The son of the former king is truly mourning his father, he just wears black. He is only preoccupied by his mother sleeping with his uncle than by the political matters. After spending a night talking to a ghost in the garden he started being truly angry at his uncle. And aparently he wants to commit murder.

Gertrude,

The new queen, apparently the death of her former husband doesn’t seem to preoccupied her as she just got married with her brother in law. I would appear that her principal motivation is to be the queen. Though she still cares about Hamlet, her son, and wants to keep an eye on him.

We chose to realise a selfie of Hamlet just after he saw his father because it's the moment when he is completely shocked. Indeed Hamlet just discovered the truth about his uncle and his mother, it is painful for him. So we wanted for this selfie to create a particular background both mysterious and scary. It has to be during the night so the obscurity could represent the heaviness of the truth. That's why the blackboard is great for this selfie, it is the combination of the night and a strange environment. Then, Hamlet has to be surprised and under the shock wearing dark clothes because he is still mourning his father. The best would be that his eyes look like they are stuck open, with dilated pupils. That way it would represent the emotions and the surprise of Hamlet but also his anger. That is why we also want him to be holding his head with his hands it would be a kind of testimony of his anger.

Important character

I believe that in Act one of Hamletthe most important character is obviously his mother. First of all, she gave birth to Hamlet but most of all she is Hamlet’s best motivation. Since the beginning of the play Hamlet has been angry against his mother and this is what pushed him to act. The marriage with her uncle and then his father’s revelation are the source of his nervousness. And despite all his anger he listened to her and did what she commanded, for example he didn’t go back to Wittenberg University. She is also the most aggravating character because she did not help Hamlet to go through this hard time. She used general truths to describe the death of his father, such as everybody will die, it happens.

The most important person in my life is someone who is always here when I am feeling sad and with whom I can spend great times hanging out or just sharing secrets. It could actually be my mother but I would inclined to say that it is the girl next to me on my wallpaper.
