ARMANDO: 1) I want to take full advantage of the AEPP program and program, however, as far as I remember, I have struggled to communicate in English, especially through speaking. I believe that my main weakness is my lack of confidence and the fear of making mistakes. I would like to work on that during the AEPP program.

2) My goal about the AEPP class is to improve my speaking abilities and built my confidence, so I can have a better experience at UChicago. I would like to remove any barrier that could exists between my professional goals and my speaking abilities.

2. The very top goal to me is try not to stop and think about words when I'm saying. And I wish the structure of my sentences and the phrases I use could be more native or accurate. Also, I'd love to reduce my grammatical problems.

YUNCONG BAI: 1) I am concerned about not fully understanding native speakers during conversations and having to guess the meaning of words. 2) I expect to improve my listening and comprehension skills so I can understand native speakers more clearly.

YUJIN: 1. I am very shy, so I am nervous when I talk with somebody I don’t know. I have some concerns about communicate with others by English. At the same time, my spoken English is not good, I concern others could not understand me. 2. My goal is to become a confident speaker using English to communicate with anyone. JINGYI: The concerns may be around my listening and speaking abilities. Actually speaking, I seldom spoke with foreigners in the past twenty years. Thus, I am worried about my ability to be a teaching assistant to satisfy our program’s need. So my goal is to communicate with others fluently and have confidence to speak English after finishing classes.

MOTOKI: 1) What are some of your apprehensions / reservations / concerns you might have about our AEPP class? My concern is that I cannot keep up with this class and I get afraid of speaking English in front of others. 2) What are some expectations / goals / assumptions that you have about our AEPP class? I want to aquire confidence toward speaking English in front of a lot of people. Also, I would love to talk with native speakers naturally in daily lives, e.g., in a supermarket.

HOON: 1) I want to participate in this class with a great energy, but I am afraid I would not make a chance because of my poor English skill. 2) I hope to feel it very easy to speak with my friends in English after I take this class. I cannot be like a native, but I want to be somewhat fluent.

I sometimes find myself hard to make sentence finished, partly due to the vocabulary but most of the time it is because I try to translate sentence directly from those of Korean to the English I need to get used to some english expressions that makes sentence easier and more fluent 2. After finishing the class, at least I expect myself not to be struggling for everyday speech
