At the beginning of this course the instructor showed us this AMAZING resource that you will use several times throughout the course. I wish I would have saved it in my Bookmarks as soon as she referenced it! I spent a lot of time trying to Google "Financial Calculators" in search of this one, but could never find it. Then I would go back to Canvas in search of the place where she posted it, to no avail. So here is the link, just do yourself a favor and save it NOW :)

Have fun!
Kelsey

This has been my favorite class by far. You learn so much in this class. Janae is super helpful and really wants to see you succeed in her class. She provides excellent information for each module. Make sure you read through all the information that she gives you and focus on the module overview and objectives. These will really help you prepare for the quizzes, the midterm, and the final. Reading the book will definitely help but you can get by without reading the whole chapter. Stay caught up and do all the homework and you will pass this class easily.
Good luck!
-Mason

Wow! I don't really know what I expected to learn in this class, but nearing the end of the semester, I know I've learned far more that I ever thought I would. I wish this class was mandatory for high schoolers. I could have benefited SO MUCH from learning this information early into my adulthood. But better late than never! I have learned so much about my personal finance that I feel confident in taking more of an active role in my family's finances (instead of letting my husband take control). My piece of advice to future students is to take advantage of group discussions! So much can be learned through simple discussion with classmates! Also, using fncalculator.com was a LIFESAVOR!

-Samantha

Get yourself a good financial calculator. It will save you some aggravation as the math problems can be a bit tedious. Using a normal calculator will just mess with your head. However, I really enjoyed this class. I consider myself a financial dunce but I am so happy that I took it! I have become a lot more aware of my finances and can use the tools I have learned to real life: buying cars, homes, insurance, investing in stocks, etc. Even though I took the on line portion of this class Janae made it interesting, challenging and above all fun!

I have loved this course, and how much it has helped me to learn more about how to save, and what to do with my money. I strongly recommend downloading the financial calculator that is offered for free with the Pearson website! It was a great thing to have handy, and it was even helpful outside of the classroom. I would say that as long as you stay caught up with everything, and turn in everything in on time this class will be super easy. This class is one of the classes I will refer to everyone, so that they will know how to handle their financial situation.

-Carly

Like everyone has mentioned so far, bookmark or download one of the financial calculators that Janae recommends. Your'e going to be using it a lot during the homework, especially for Pearson's and it's so much easier to have it ready when you need it and you won't have to search for it in the modules.

Pay Attention to each weeks overview and objectives, that is what's going to be on the midterm and final. I would recommend taking notes every week, so when the midterm or test comes up you have everything together and can study.

The discussion are super helpful if you need help with some of the homework or have a question about anything to do with the class. Janae is great about getting back to you fast and you can also ask for her help on a Pearson problem, and it will show her the exact problem your working on, so it's easier to explain what you don't understand.

I would recommend NOT buying the ebook through Pearson. I personally wasn't of big fan of theirs, it took me a while to figure it out how to navigate the specific chapters and I always have a hard time reading on the computer instead of a physical book, but it was nice when I wanted to search a certain topic and could find it easily. If you can find a cheap book I would do it that way.

Lastly, make sure you go through everything in the module and go through the whole powerpoint before you do the homework. It is a great way to test what you learned and I learned more then if I hurried through the homework just to get it done.

Good Luck! Janae is a great teacher, and if you need help don't hesitate to ask her!

-Madison

I learned so much taking this class and would definitely recommend to everyone. I think that this class is a total need not only as a college freshmen but at any point in your college career. I'm only 19 and honestly I was so naive about financial decisions until I had taken this class. I got my first car and understood the whole process at the bank because of what I learned in this class. It honestly made me feel really good and more mature. I love being able to know how to save my money and spend smart yet treat my self every once in a while.

I honestly don't think that you need the text book to pass this class. I did just fine without it and the powerpoints help you a lot more than the actual text, at least thats how I felt. Review your quizzes, modules, and powerpoints, I didn't do this for the midterm and learned after that it was beneficial to have all those materials. Take advantage of retaking the quizzes three times, it helps.

Lastly, Janae is a great teacher and I really enjoyed this class. Like many others said, she is very helpful and wants to help you out so don't be afraid to ask for the help if you need it. Good luck in this class and learn as much as you can. This is knowledge that is actually beneficial and will help you, I wish they taught you this stuff in high school!
-Brianna

This is a good class to take if you feel you need more information on grown up necessities. Of course its a little scary to grow up, we get that feeling that we want to vomit but its something we have to do. I recommend this class because you will learn so many important concepts that you will probably use in your everyday life as you grow up. Its important to do all the homework and really read it to understand, trust me, you will thank this class throughout the semester. There are so many important concepts and some might be confusing but Janae is always willing to help, just send her a message, you can also get help from classmates from the discussions which are super useful. Be sure to really study for the midterm, its a huge chunk of your grade. The class really isn't that hard and the homework isn't that hard, just a little time consuming. Great class to take, highly recommend!
-Edgar Ramos

This class will teach you a lot of really great information about personal finance. It will motivate you to prepare for your future and really help you organize your finances. If there is anything that really jumps out to you that you want to work on or start doing, I would suggest saving the page to your computer so you can review it in the future. As far as passing the class, Janae is VERY helpful, if you have any questions or concerns she will get back to you usually within a day. My advice for passing the quizzes is to take your time and really read the chapter highlights and you will pass. Also make sure to save your completed quizzes so you can study them for the mid term and final, they are extreamley helpful! Best wishes!
-Robyn Sandgren

I actually really liked this class, I was always learning something new. There are 3 particular things I can think about that I think would be beneficial to a new comer to this class. 1) prepare for the midterms and finals, most the questions on the midterm were based on our quizzes so study the quizzes questions and answers. 2) I didn't really use the power points, I mainly used the book. After finding the power points I recognized I didn't even need the book because the power points do such a great job on educating your for the topic of that week. 3) Be prepared when assignments are due. In canvas it would show my assignments were due at 12:59 am the next day, but everything would lock at 11:59pm the prior day to what canvas said. It's only 2 hour difference but when you count on that 2 hours to complete an assignment it can really affect your grade if it's not turned in on time. -Dawn Curry

The most useful advise I can give you is to get your homework done early in the week. You have discussions that you need to participate in every week. These assignments are a group effort, because you need to ask a question, and answer two other questions. Your classmates need your questions, and you need theirs. The best thing you can do is to start early, so that you don't have to panic Sunday evening.

-Jared

First, I'd like to mention how helpful and involved the teacher was during the course. She was very quick to respond to any questions and graded the assignments lightning fast! Whether you're taking this class to complete prerequisites for your degree or if you're taking this for yourself, try to always involve your personal situation or goals in the questions you have in the discussions. They'll help you more than you know!

During almost the entire duration of the class, we were assigned to invest an imaginary $50k into at least ten different stocks with the option of investing in silver and gold as well. My advise on this assignment is to have fun and check the price per share more often than the one time during the week you need to document it into an excel sheet. The reason why you want to do this is because you can resell your stocks during the semester (without paying a tax penalty) and invest into new stocks with potential profit. Make sure you give yourself ample time when the time comes to sell your shares because there will be a stock analysis due the same day which asks you about your experience in the assignment, what stock has the highest market cap, the lowest, dividends, etc. I enjoyed this assignment the most because it was progressive throughout the course and I made a profit (which did not go in my pocket)! But I've also been involved in investing in liquid assets such and silver because of what I've learned during this assignment and course.

A financial calculator will be provided in the assignments that need one so don't stress buying one. The assignments will take you half the time if you find the patience to read the entire chapter or watch the powerpoint provided to you. If you invest interest and time in the class, it'll come by much easier and you'll enjoy learning about finance! Good luck!

-Adrien Anthian

Just pay special attention to where you are entering the information and yo
u should be just fine!

I also really recommend buying the book. I thought it was so helpful during the quizzes. I would recommend before taking this class that you know about the little things. For tests you will need to go to a testing center at a campus near you. There are no tests that are done online, there are however quizzes that you can complete online and they allow multiple attempts. Make sure to know that the quizzes and the math lab online homework does allow multiple attempts to complete this assignment correctly. I did like that as it worked with you to try getting the problem right. Those are the little things that I would keep in consideration when deciding to take this class. Good luck!

Even though I had experience with banking, cash handling and managing my money I have learned so much taking this class and I would definitely recommend to everyone.

Get a good financial calculator, everything will be easier and everything will make more sense

If you are taking the class online, I would recommend getting the ebook, that way you can study, practice and take the homework anywhere you go. Plus, I believe it’s easier to study and consequently to get ready for the finals.

If you really want to learn something - not just pass the class - pay attention to the quizzes and examples.

Janae is a great teacher and super helpful, if you need help don’t hesitate to ask her, she will help you.

Once again I learned a lot with the class, it was fun and pleasant.

- Rodolfo Ferreira
