The second world war negatively impacted the Italian population resulting in lots of immigration from the Italian community.

Because of communism gaining popularity, the U.S. instituted a public relations campaign to prevent the Communist Party from taking power in Italy and because of this campaign, a democratic republic was established in 1948.

Through the 1950s, over 20,000 Italian immigrants entered Canada annually. And, between 1951 and 1961, Canada’s Italian population grew from 150,00 to 450,000.

July 1979: Canada starts accepting 50,000 refugees from Indochina (Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos) by the end of the year due to the "boat people" crisis.

April 1980: Canada revises its refugee target, increasing it to 60,000 for the 1979–80 period.

in the 1940s potato's were not able to be grown in Ireland which caused famine. Many people were not eating so this could cause people to immigrate to the BNA. They came to BNA in horrible conditions and the government had to create quarantine laws to prevent sickness, and many died at sea on the way to BNA. Eventually Irish was one of the biggest ethnical groups in BNA.

Brief summary: Canada was in a period of recession which caused the government to try and pull in more immigrants that were farmers from Northern Europe but not all immigrants were welcome jewish Syrians and greeks were at the bottom of the immigration list.
