It was changed by farmers in the 19^th century into this calf house. Neolithic farmers moved the capstone to create the doorway you see in the picture.

These are the remains of the McCaffrey families farmstead and surrounding stone walls, you can see the calf house dolmen in the background. 

The McCaffrey's were the last family to farm and live in the Burren.

It was constructed at the end of the Neolithic/Stone age.  

A wedge tomb is a burial place. You can see the large stones with a slopping roof slab or capstone.

It is believed that this tomb was strategically placed by our ancestors to face the setting sun of the Winter solstice.  

Also, if you glance from here to the cairn situated on top of the Cuilcagh mountain, you can see Calf House Dolmen and a sandstone boulder presented in a line.
