He did not have an 'iPhone' or any other items that people want, not need. This podcast includes ideas on how to survive on this lifestyle.

It has not been touched by man and not been changed by society. That is what Thoreau wanted when he lived in the nature by himself: a pure minimalist lifestyle with nobody to interrupt him.

When we start to care more about materialistic things, we tend to get stressed when in reality, that is the last thing we should be doing. In transcendentalism, it is described that we should become the best possible version of ourselves, and Andy explains that by saying we must be present in the world around us.

Thoreau did this by living in nature which caused him to become his best self.

His simple steps are reading, healing, showing gratitude, listening, finding community, and telling your story. He says, that if you follow these steps you will find the purpose in your life. Now Thoreau did not give simple steps to finding purpose, but he did find a purpose in his life and he believed that everyone should find a purpose in their life.

The bridge represents the path we are supposed to follow if we stay within all lines and borders life has for us. The lily-pads represent the freedom to live however we choose and freely. As they float through the water, there is no one path that they must follow, they can go anywhere they choose, which is what the transcendentalists believed.
