Traveled to China to start détente plan and form a relationship with the communist instead constantly fighting. Met with Mao Zedong and the Premier Zhou En Lai. Talk about Japanese expansion and Taiwan's independence angered the Premier as did the discussion about the Chinese defect who escaped to the west. Nixon got his détente , but did not close any deals with the government, but now the U.S. and the People's Republic of China developed a relationship in the economic and political aspect.
