Ben and Jerry  Like to get their bananas, sugar, vanilla, cocoa, and coffee from small businesses or farmers to help support them.  For coffee, “ The Huatusco Coffee Cooperative in Mexico supplies us with much of our Fairtrade coffee—since 2010, we have sourced more than 300,000 pounds of coffee from them for our flavors.“ ( Ben & Jerry, 2020).  Many of Ben and Jerry ingredients are bought from the local.

Ben and Jerry believed in environmental protection. In the early 1998, Ben and Jerry switched from using their old ice cream carton that was made out of chlorine paper that created 35 tons of waste each day to eco pint which was made out of unbleached paperboard which decreased their waste over 50%.

In 1977, they both was thinking of starting a food business. They were thinking of opening a bagel shop, but came to realize that all the materials and production of making bagels are over their budget price. So digging deeper into the business world’s, they selected opening an ice cream shop. However, none of them knew anything about how to run a business, so they signed up for this program that teaches how to run a business and also retired business’s owner being their mentor. Starting in 1978, they opened their first shop in Burlington, Vermont. That’s when the magic started to happen.

While making income is one of the reason to open a business, but maintaining high quality ingredients are key for returning customers and new customers. Ben and Jerry is part of a program called “ The Caring Dairy” which specializes in listing out farmers who respects sustainability and follow all other criteria to maintain clean ingredients for companies.

Anybody can really work for them. 
Electricians, managers, supervisors, business analysts, sales administrators, cashiers, ice scream scoopers, shipping specialists,  lab assistants, and customer service representatives are all needed to make the ice cream, keep the factory working, and transport the goods. In addition to that, those who work for them get 3 pint of ice cream for free everyday and also free gym membership not to mention day care service, free healthcare membership, college tuition aid, and much more.
