"Us" is a term used typically when speaking of one (the person speaking), and whomever they are mentioning. It can be friends, family, teammates, classmates and so on. As well as being used when speaking of your race, religion, culture and more.
The "others" is typically used in a way of discrimination when talking about another person or group who is 'different' from you. Such as racism, transphobic, etc..

Examples are journal entries within a diary (Anne Frank for instance), an artifact such as a Native American spearhead or even a teddy bear from your childhood which is considered a personal artifact. What a primary source is not, is anything that is told from a second account. What time period is this picture, considering the clothing that is wore and the diversity in the setting? Such as using context clues, or words and phrases surrounding whatever you are looking at. Within the entry I provided below, it is clear a man is angry at President Eisenhower for allowing the integration of whites and blacks into schools, and public places. Considering the time period in which this letter was written, 1957, it is highly understandable as to why this man, Frederick B. Austin, is angry with President Eisenhower as this was the time period in which the civil rights movement was started, as well as the desegregation and segregation.

You just have to look past the bigger picture of what is portrayed and shown within what you can see. Ask questions that relate to what ever you may be analyzing to help better understand what is happening, whether it be a picture, or writing of some sort.
