After reading the article, I was able to give a brief overview of my thoughts on code-switching and why I believe it is important. Code switching is important due to its wide use among people who know different languages and dialects. This artifact applies to this projects due to its connection to speaking. Code-switching is a way for those who know multiple languages and dialects to use this knowledge to express their words and ideas in different ways. Code-switching can also be natural as it also combines listening and speaking.  This is very interesting as someone could speak in different languages and dialects depending on who or what they are listening to and responding to. This is important for this project as it helps with looking at natural ways in which people can combine the domains of language.

The song that I chose was "Jesus Walks" By Kanye West and this song showed a great use of slang to help portray and discuss police brutality in The United States of America.

This assignment taught me about the importance of music and the arts in portraying specific elements in language and society. This assignment made students talk about whether or not artists should focus on proper grammar usage in their songs. My group did our project on Southern accents in The United States of America and we looked at the different ways in which people from the South are linguistically profiled due how they speak.

This assignment dealt specifically with all the four domains of language. This is important because I was able to examine different aspects of Southern linguistics in America and compare these aspects to other states and regions in the country. This also allowed for us to go in depth on why certain people react to Southern accents and dialect when they hear specific forms of speech from people that originate or are influenced by their linguistics. This also lead to us focusing on views of Southern linguistics in the media.

This assignment helped with looking at personal aspects and elements of language and culture that effect students. This artifact is a great example for this assignment because I saw that I described the four domains of language in relation to my culture.

The online autobiography relates to this project as it helps with students looking at personal examples of speaking. In my autobiography, I noticed that there are many factors that are affecte by the four domains of language. Culture and other factors also form connections with the four domains of language. This is a great example as an artifact for this project as it helps to show that many people can also look at their own language and culture and evaluate how their surroundings and environments have affected their language.

This blog post showed how many students who go to school are not able to speak, read, or write in English. This also means that it can be hard for many students who are English language learners to listen to someone who is speaking in English and understand what they are saying. However, many of these students are held to the same degree as English native speakers to take tests and so school assignments in English.

This assignment helped with showing students the struggles that international students who come to America can go through. This assignment focuses on all four domains of language as there are articles that help with showing how three English language learners attempted to cope with American society. This shows that the domains of language for different people can be molded based on motivation and environment.

Language can be described as a tree that has different branches and elements that stem from the root and foundation of language and culture.

This image describes what culture is composed of on a broad scale. The creativity of the picture comes from the use of digital tools and transparent pictures to create a piece that includes a smooth application of our ideas.

This is important because in this class we discussed how listening is one of the most important parts of communicating. This Ted Talk discusses how important language can be in influencing one’s perception of their environment. She also talks about why this is one reason why we should pay more attention to how we communicate. This also alludes to the idea that different language can create different perspectives.

Prior to this song and its music video, Kanye West was known for his experimentation with different forms of sound and lyrics. In this song, he takes on the viewpoint of motivation and perseverance as he talks about him being stronger than his competition in the world of Hip-Hop/Rap and life. The song shows many great elements as one listens to the lyrics and embraces the visual effects of the production.

This song and music video have different elements of language and listening as Kanye West uses different types of language and imagery than what he usually made during the time of the release of the song. When artists make songs and music videos, they usually create them to illicit emotion within their fans and viewers.

African American English, also known as Ebonics, is a collection of words and phrases that are primarily used by African Americans. There are many African-Americans in America as there are many black students, workers, government officials, and other personnel and people as well. This blog post made students think about the application of African American English in different aspects of society. This assignment made me think about African American students who use Ebonics and go to school in America. Many students could possibly benefit from being encouraged to use African American English in school. It could also be beneficial for students if teachers learn more about Ebonics as well.
