         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong><em>At its height, the Persian Empire extended from Egypt, in North Africa, east to the Indus River in present-day Pakistan. The empire was ruled by powerful kings who conquered Mesopotamia, Asia Minor, Egypt, and parts of India and Europe.The Ionian Revolt, which began in 499 B.C.E., led to the start of the Persian wars.The Ionians knew that they could not defeat the Persians by themselves, so they asked mainland Greece for help. In 493 B.C.E., the Persian army defeated the Ionians.</em></strong></div>]]></description>

A brilliant Athenian general named Miltiades convinced the Athenians that it was dangerous to fight the Persians at Marathon. Although the Athenians were outnumbered two factors helped them defeat the Persians. The first was better weapons. The second factor that helped the Athenians defeat the Persians was military strategy. They had amazing war strategies and that day they fought like beasts <br></em></strong><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>After King Darius died, his son, Xerxes organized another attack on     Greece.Hearing the news, Athens and Sparta decided to work together to fight the enemy. Their strategy had two parts. The Athenian navy would try to stop the Persian navy. In the meantime, the Spartan king, Leonidas would try to stop the Persian army. By having the advantage of the path through the mountains, the Persians won the battle and could now advance to Athens.</strong></div>]]></description>
