Half of the place will not be planted while half of the place will be planted. During harvest, soil on the planted part will take a few weeks to get fertile again and this cause farmers to lose profit. Thus, by using the empty plot, farmers can regularly plant without having to wait. Sprinklers are used  between the crops to allow the plant get sufficient water to live.
The type of plant used are squash, maize and beans. These are also known as 'The Three sisters' because each plant will get and give benefit to other plant. This can reduce cost needed for farmers to cultivate plants.

However, there are also disadvantages such as it involves risk in terms of the cost and it requires more knowledge and skills. There’s 3 types of crop rotations.
