         <description><![CDATA[<pre><strong>in 1582, the gregorian calendar restored, january 1 as new years day. although most catholic countries adopted the gregorian calendar amost immediently, until 1752 the british empire and their amrerican colonies still celebrated in march. julian ceaser  introduced a new solar based calendar  that improved the roman calendar. it deceed that janurary 1st as the begining of the year. within the roman world. janurary 1st became consistently observed start of the new year.
