Quite literally, to dialogue and listen to your spirit is to be the "Listening Mien" yourself. It's a method of being, I would like to call, where calmness and mindfulness give space in which an individual can talk and realize that they are being heard. Those times when we reach out with our sense of wonder, awe, and communion is when we connect to our spiritualities. It's from this space that we can tune in across our disparities. When listening profoundly, we perceive the power of existence or soul of another, and we observe ourselves to be ready to see one another, even others whose foundations or sentiments are not the same as our own.

To “listen” another’s soul into a condition of disclosure and discovery may be almost the greatest service that any human being ever performs for another.
—Douglas Steere

We've all had our fair share of body insecurities and growing up with people telling me to "lose or gain some weight, you're too fat or too skinny," didn't help at all. In fact, it made me hate my body to the point of not eating or stress-eating despite my body's plea to stop. The situation during this pandemic, where people are continuously dying due to COVID-19, have made me realize to take a better look at myself and contemplate ways to make my body stronger, resorting to a much healthier option than my former routine of irregularly eating and having sleepless nights. The most important part to listening to your body is actually respecting it. Constantly remind yourself how significant you are, not exclusively to yourself only but also to people around you. Your opinion and feelings matter. Your body matters because it always know what it needs. Furthermore, when you honor that body by treating it with adoration and regard, it will react in kind.

"Hate is a prolonged form of suicide."
— Douglas Steere

We all know that our body is the temple of God, which is why so we should treat them with reverence and nourish them not only physically but also spiritually. I admit that I myself has not been constantly doing that, not because I don’t want to but there are just circumstances that hinders me from doing it, insecurities, thoughts of other people and even someone dear to you. But though it happens, I still don’t forget to pray and feed myself with the word of God because it helps me a lot in dealing with these struggles. Another thing I do is meditate. Communicating with yourself and to God brings you more peace of mind, which helps me make better decisions. Its better to be true to yourself rather than pretending to be someone you are not; acceptance is one of the keys to loving yourself and I know that I am almost there . Surround yourself with good people and choose an environment where it gives you peace and happiness.

With everything that is happening, it gave me a certain perspective that I should change my tune. I started listening to my body and soul through meditation. By meditating, it calms my body down and helps me process my thoughts in a peaceful environment. Meditation helps my mind, body and soul connect with one another to help me be the best version of myself. Relatively, I started working out and eating healthy to help my body grow and stay strong. Reading and praying, helps my mind and soul to be in sync, helping me feel at peace with myself.

MY REFLECTION/EXPERIENCE: dialogue with the body and spirit, nurturing thyself

As a child who grew up in a catholic family we were always told that to never draw or ink your body because it was the temple of God, and to do so meant going against his will of protecting his creation and being a sinner who disobeys him. So I followed in order to be a good disciple of God, But as I grew up I started to realize that protecting your body isn't just a simple black and white,, and words of God should not be taken too literally but be thought of critically, does protecting the body really just means not to put art on it or to actually keep it healthy. Because I don't think God is as shallow to consider artistic independence as a sin but unhealthy consumption of food and liquor as acceptable and something normal. So now I have changed my mindset and realize that people's disagreement with tattoos are their way to hold tradition of not having any physical art, rather than their concern for actually following God's because if they do then they should condemn the people who destroy their body with unhealthy foods and beverages as much as they condemn individuals with harmless tattoo. So all in all it should be realized that to actually take care of our body doesn't just mean what's on the outside but rather the well being of the entire body. Continuing the idea of not everything healthy is just based on the outside, we should not only try to take care of our body but also our spirit as well. Most of the time, the most difficult thing to take care of is our spirit, since there are no scientific or medical professionals that can diagnose and give us medication for it. So healing starts with identifying it ourselves that our spirit needs to take a break and in order to do that we should take time to reflect on the things that we have done, check our conscience and our plan of the person we want to become. Once we've established this the path to healing our spirit becomes clear because acceptance of our imperfections and the things we could not help releases us from the shackles of our incapabilities. This realization will take off the burden in our spirit and help it focus to becoming better with the things you can do rather than thinking of the things you can't

MY REFLECTION/EXPERIENCE: Dialogue with the body and sprit; Self-care

As a student, it is inevitable to have stress. We frequently forget to relax and care for our bodies since we spend so much of our day doing schoolwork, writing essays, and studying for examinations. Our body burns out quickly from all the pressure and expectations. In my personal experience, I have been burned out from not taking care of myself such having enough sleep, skipping meals, staying up all night, not taking a bath, and many more. Those times it made me have difficulties in making my body function with my daily tasks and I easily faint. With the pandemic, health care is such huge focus right now that not all the hospitals and health workers can accommodate everyone. The pandemic made me realized that how important health is and prevention is better than cure. As for the Spirit, understanding your spiritual existence is an important aspect of self-care that is often ignored. Spiritual self-care is an important part of any well-rounded self-care routine. With the pandemic cases and the lockdown making us feel depressed and scared, it takes a toll in not just our mental health but spiritual health too. The feeling of being locked down in our homes, not being able to see friends anymore or go to church, the change made me feel so suddenly confused and scared. So, I decided to meditate or do yoga to keep my mind off, take a time to pause and reflect on myself, give myself positive affirmations, surround myself with my loved one to feel safer and supported, to pray to God for protection, and do things that make me happy.

Our body is given to us by our loving Heavenly Father. He created it as a tabernacle for our spirit to assist each of us in our request to fulfill the full measure of our creation. Through our body, we can say we exist and therefore enjoy the most amazing experience of being alive. During this time of pandemic, I feel anxious or worried about myself. Being out of our routine can cause sadness, boredom or loneliness. I even feel anger and resentment due to the loss of freedom. But then I realized that I am not alone, I know I can make it through this experience. So, what I did is I regularly eat a balance meal, prioritize sleep and learn to calm my mind, reinvent myself and pray. Prayer gives me strength and positive feelings, through prayer, I can finally achieve peace and serenity and begin to move forward in health and happiness without remaining trapped in a past that is riddled with mistakes and hurtful behavior. Daily prayer is a wonderful way to cultivate strength.
