Usually by creating borders, people feel more safe because is easier for controlling, managing and providing security. Moreover, borders now have a strong meaning of boundary. Across the world, it exists thousands of borders, including friendly ones (Canada and United States that it has the longest undefended borders stretching for about 6.416Km) or the hostile ones (South and North Korea, that has a wall and a high protection to people who try to bypass it). 
The pros of a border would be:
-A higher security level
-Dont let people bypass your country without permission
The cons of a border would be:

It actually just separated all of us in different groups (Chinese, brazilians, Italians). Borders create and enforce the idea that we are diferent and not all equal.
