It opened its doors to the public in 1873 as the Agricultural Hotel then changed its name to the Commercial Hotel in the 1880s.  In 1905,  a major renovation completely altered the Commercial Hotel.  A stained glass dome was installed in the dining room and the name changed to the Northern Hotel.  It served notables such as Franklin D. Roosevelt and John Wayne.  In 1936 owners gave the building a facelift by adding an Art Deco façade with floral and geometrically patterned accents.  The remodeled structure anchored the city’s downtown district. The latest renovation of the Northern began in the 1990's and in 2001 it reopened as affordable senior housing, with retail establishments on the street level.  I took this picture of the dome. Could this be inspired from the Pantheon in Rome?  I think so.
