I’m interested in psychology because I’ve always been fascinated about how different things affect our behaviour and our brain, it’s also one of my HL classes and I love it so much.

2. I am interested in learning about the effect of music on the brain. I’ve been learning, playing and listening to music all my life and always wondered what kind of person I would be if I didn’t have music. This research project will give me a better understanding of how music has shaped me and the people around me who also share the same love for music.

3. I want to focus on the effects of music on children’s behaviour, as their brain is still maturing and not fully developed, so they are more likely to be affected by external influence. Later on in the year, I will (hopefully) start teaching music to children in Sun Village. These children are children of convicts and live together in this centre. Depending on their state of mind (maybe they went through a traumatic experience, not clear what their current status is until I meet them), I can observe if music has had negative or positive effects on them.

4. I will be mostly collecting data from scholarly sources and studies that have been done (sources online and in hardcopy). If possible, I want to conduct an experiment that will allow me to study the change in the behaviour of young children before, during and after learning music for a period of time.

I think your topic is really interesting and I never thought of how music plays a role in our behaviours (so you really opened up my eyes on this one). But I was just wondering what age range of the children will you be focusing on, and will you focus on a specific place or specific genre of music? Overall, your topic is clear and easy to understand, but maybe you can narrow down the focus of "children" in this investigation. Good luck!! I am very curious of what you find!!!

This is definitely a topic that has a lot of potential and so much to research about. However, there are so many different genres of music and each genre will probably have a different effects on children and different age groups will probably respond to music differently. It would be really cool if you could do a comparison of the effect of different music genres (rock vs classical vs pop vs children's music, etc.) or the effect on different age groups (though I'm not sure how big of a variation there would be for age).
