There is no distinct plot in the story, and that’s what makes it a read that I hold so close to my heart. Without a steady or overriding plot, the characters get so much more development than they do in other YA books, and I found myself being so emotionally invested in these characters that I had no need for a plot.

This story deserves four stars and I would definitely recommend this book to children around nine to fourteen years old. It is good for readers to learn how to avoid envy and instead learn from other’s experiences as motivation.

I am deeply touched by the human-animal bond between Joey and Albert in this novel. Albert loves Joey but cannot stop his father from selling him to the army, so instead, he tries to join the army to try and find him. Even though Albert may not be old enough to be enlisted yet, he searches and never forgets about his beloved companion.

The Five People you Meet in Heaven, by Mitch Albom

The writing style is different. It’s not heavy, yet it’s not casual either. You won’t cry buckets, nor will you stay unmoved by the plight of the characters. The book deals with the life story of Eddie, an 83-year-old war veteran who dies and goes to heaven. It also shows how many threads are used to weave the quilt of life.

Each person teaches Eddie a lesson. Sacrifice, acceptance, letting go, forgiveness, and power of lost love are highlighted. It also highlights PTSD and how it can cloud a person's life forever. Eddie finally learns to let it all go after he meets the fifth and most crucial person.

The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak

For me, this is a very different but very heart touching story. I loved learning about Liesel 's life: her love towards books, her love towards words. I loved the writing of Markus Zusak as it keeps you completely invested in the story. He also gives some spoilers in the middle: "this character is going to die." This prepares you to face what's coming and you become more interested in the story.

My favourite character is Dark Lord Sauron, even though he is evil. I feel like he is a very interesting character because his mace and mythical gauntlets are fascinating. The mace is an upgraded version of a wand. It is shiny silver and has six razor sharp spikes on the top of it. His gauntlets, on the other hand, shoot magical energy balls which create an explosion. They have sharp fingertips with barbs all over the gauntlets.

My favourite part of the book is when Frodo and his three companions meet Aragorn and Legolas because the scene is memorable and jovial. There was also suspense when Gandalf sent a letter warning Frodo about an imposter of Aragorn.

There are lots of hilarious moments, including mini-comic strips, jokes and drawings, to hold a middle schooler's interest, as well as an insight into school life - friends, cafeteria food, homework, bullies, and snarky text messages.

But underneath all the humour is a moving story of Jamie with a hidden secret, who's had to face more than his fair share of tragedy.

This book of humour will make you howl until there are tears in your eyes. The book is followed by I Even Funnier, I Totally Funniest, I Funny TV and more! So there are plenty of these books to make you shiver and shake.

I Funny: A Middle School Story is a realistic fiction novel and is recommended for readers 9 and above.

Every weed Mary pulled, every seed she planted and every flower she watered adds to her becoming a better person. By the fall the garden looked amazing and the writer really let us know that with the amount of detailed description of the garden. I think this was a great book especially if most ages can read it. The book is inspiring and also sends a message of hope and tendencies for our love of nature.
