Through ACORN, I've gained insight into the NIHR/HEE ICA pathway and how it supports nurses, midwives and AHPs in developing as clinical academics. Understanding these routes has helped me think more strategically about my future career, and the possibility of progressing through Masters or Pre-doctoral Fellowship routes.

I attended a one-day national convention titled "Making Research Matter", which introduced me to the clinical academic pathways available for nurses. It helped me realize that there are accessible opportunities for people like me who didn't have a formal research background to still pursue academic development. I also attended the ACORN Showcase of Nurse and Midwife-led Research on 4th of December 2024, where I gained a deeper appreciation of the impact that nursing-led research can have on patient care and policy. Listening to real experiences and success stories made the pathway feel more tangible and achievable.

I've made efforts to reach out to senior clinicians and the women's health research lead to discuss my project idea. Their feedback and encouragement gave me the confidence to refine my research question and explore ways to align it with ongoing Trust priorities.
