Personal Response: I enjoyed reading this book because Asert's illustrations of the worlds were whimsical - stuff dreams are made of. It's a great children's book because it shows children to dream big, follow their dream, and not give-up.

Personal Response: I really enjoyed reading this book. I really like how this book includes cultural references in each illustration. This book reminded me of the time I was down in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico and there were street vendors all across the town. It was full of delicious food, sweet treats, and wonderful people.

Personal Response: I enjoyed reading this book, it was full of suspense and such an easy read. There are multiplication sums that appear throughout Fuzzy Mud. At first I was very confused about this because there was no context. However, I realized the significance of this because it demonstrates the exponential rate at which the mutated Biolene multiplies.

Coming to Boise State not knowing anyone it took me a while before I fit in and felt like I belonged. This feeling changed once I found some friends and my interest. This story helps students learn that you matter and it’s okay to be different. The book talks about different identities and shows children that it is important to embrace yourself.

Cece comes up with “El Deafo” to be her alter ego. It is her super hero that helps her escape the world and be herself. Cece learns to become confident in herself despite the differences she has.

Personal Response: I really enjoyed reading the graphic novel El Deafo. I loved how the author Cece Bell wrote this book about her personal experiences growing up as deaf. I like how this book teaches children to embrace their differences.

Mateo adopts the responsibility of caring for his younger sister, Sophie, and tries his best to stay afloat with schoolwork and friendships, all while anticipating whether his parents will get deported from the United States. Though Mateo has some support from his uncle Jorge and his wife Amy, as well as his friends Kimmie and Adam, he still must confront the challenge of his parents’ nebulous futures as well as what his own life may look like without them.
Personal Response: Aleman does an excellent job of portraying the effects of deportation and the resulting parental separation on Latinx youth. My heart ached and my eyes teared up reading about Mateo and Sophie’s struggles during the whole process. Aleman doesn’t sugarcoat the siblings’ pain which helped Indivisible feel emotionally significant and authentic. He also writes so well about the deep love between Mateo, Sophie, and their parents, giving their relationships real weight. I also enjoyed the diversity within Indivisible, in particular how Mateo and Adam are both gay without their sexualities being the main point of the novel.

Personal Response: This amazing picture book shows the importance of failing before you can be truly great. It's a wonderful story about self-esteem that connects with Rosie the Riveter. Andrea Beaty's text is simplistic and rhythmically poetic. Although some of the rhyming couplets seemed forced, it's well written.

Personal Response: I was not a huge fan of this book. The story is lovely. I especially liked to read about Sofia and her abuelo's relationship. However, the connections between the title is made at the very ends. It almost seems like an afterthought rather than a statement to drive the story. I can't help but think that I enjoyed Rosie Revere, Engineer a bit more.

Response to Book: I loved reading this book. Ever since I was younger I was always addicted to the Hunger Games Series. They are fun books to read and I love how they keep you at the edge of your seat. I enjoyed reading this book again and it made me want to read the whole series.

Personal Response: I enjoyed reading this book. I thought it was very funny, it even made me laugh. This book can help children understand the concept of point of view and inclusion. It is important to always include everyone just like the different color crayons. I will definitely be adding this book to my library.
