Inuit toys help children learn about their own culture and traditions. Non-Inuit children can gain more respect about our Inuit heritage, many toys go with stories and names made by Inuit. Teachers can also use these toys to start a conversation, the small toys can also strengthen hand muscles, practice grasping tools. They can also learn from Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit Principles; Pilammaksarniq, avatitinnik and qanurtuurniq.

It’s beneficial because we don’t have use a different provinces or territories resources. Using the resources in Nunavut by northerners we are given our own culture resources like toys, books, learning tools like the I PI TI KI flash cards. Getting the kids to the daycare learn more of our culture. We also invited 2 people to come show the kids throat singing in the summer, and we invited someone to show the kids what Inuit games.

With resources created in Nunavut, it is beneficial for the children because they can learn more about our culture. They can use their imagination to play with the toys, learning about how the Inuit used them to survive. The toys they use, also foster cognitive, physical and emotional development. The teachers or their friends can talk about how they’ll play with them. With the physical development, they’ll improve fine motor skills, hand to eye coordination, and muscle strength. With emotional development, it’ll improve how they express themselves and learn to regulate their emotions.

Resources created by inuit is beneficial to ECE children because it is our way of life in and outside of daycare.

Inuit tools are created to show children how they are used and what they look like, we also use our Inuit language because as Inuit we are slowly gaining our language back as well as the culture.

The resources were created to benefit Inuit, within the education, training and culture preservation.

Inuit based flash cards and other Inuit items are beneficial are helpful for our children such as;

Colours and Shapes in Inuktitut, we introduce young children to colours and shapes in our Inuit language with these wall cards that are put up.
Activity cards; cards support early learning and routine-building by introducing children daily activities in Inuktitut.
I,Pi,Ti,Ki; this will help children engage to the syllabics.
Country food Set; the wooden country food set helps the children on how to learn about Inuit cuisine and culture through interactive play.

This is beneficial for the children as they’ll learn the way of life our older generations have lived, the meaning of their traditions and culture. They could play with them to learn, we have traditional toys for them to learn to use and play. We also have flash cards for them to learn to speak more Inuktitut.

Getting resources from northerners is helpful because most of the stuff like puzzles and toys are coming from northerners.

Seeing we can order Inuktitut syllables from other communities is amazing because we can teach their Inuktitut names, colours and shapes. We need some more Inuit tools like pana, ulu, teach them what we use them for. Pana for making igloo and ulu to cut meat, skins, and other resource.

We need children to start using their muscles to learn how to hunt caribou or other animals. Getting other people or Inuit to come and teach more Inuktitut and Inuit games.

The children are more familiarized with all the toys, posters, and books. They’re used to the language. And if the ECE is an inuk, they pronounce the words correctly.

Inuit toys would help them develop fine motor skills also, those toys would help inuit children enjoy our culture and traditions, imaginations, playing games, story telling… loads of fun activity in our inuit culture the children could enjoy and use for the domains….
