How Is Alice Paul Truly Radical

Alice Paul was born on January the 11th, 1885. She was extremely passionate about equal rights for women, Alice was an American suffragist, feminist and a women's rights activist . This means that she wanted women to be able to vote and get jobs. Alice was part of the nineteenth amendment to the U.S government in 1919. She was one of the main leaders and strategists. The nineteenth amendment focused on all women having the right to vote whenever they wanted to. This initially started in 1919 and finished in august 1920. I believe that Alice Paul was truly radical as she didn't care about how hard it would be go achieve equal rights for women, she had a strong opinion on how she wanted the world to be and pursued it. Alice would have had to overcome so many problems throughout her journey that would have an emotional effect on her, this is one of the huge reasons i believe she is truly radical, her ability to stay strong through tough times is truly admirable. Alice Paul was seen as a symbol of strength, hope and perseverance especially for women in the united states but also for women all across the world.

(History of U.S. Woman's Suffrage, 2019)

In what way may your person been less than perfect?

A way that Alice Paul may not have been perfect was in 1913 when 5000 African American women protested on the streets of Washington, they all voluntarily went along but the police did little to control this event. Although it was needed to promote and spread their message, almost all of those women were in danger as the men that didn't want the women to have equal rights started to cause riots. Throughout this protest no women or men were injured but the protest could have been planned out to be safer. This is one of the reasons I think that Alice Paul was less perfect, I believe Alice Paul only had her focus on her big goal and perhaps didn't consider the safety of the other women. this in the worst case could have cost lives of innocent women.

What have you found most inspiring about the person?

Something that i found extremely inspiring about Alice Paul is her perseverance. I believe that Alice Paul would have gotten so much hate from men and the government due to what she thought was right, any other person would have quit straight away and left in tears, but not Alice Paul. As known everyone has to face difficulties when they are trying to pursue their dreams and she overcame many, she stayed strong as ever and was a symbol of hope for the women of America. Not once was Alice ever out looking for fame or money, she was purely committing to what she thought the world should be like and nothing more. She once said “There will never be a new world order until women are a part of it” (BrainyQuote, 2019), this quote demonstrates how passionate she was about women being able to have equal rights. I believe this quote holds a lot of power and is significantly important to history. Another reason i have found Alice Paul so inspiring is how she managed to stay so focused on her goal, anyone that has dreams always has distraction and problems. Alice Paul was able to manage all of those and she achieved her goal. I find this extremely admirable. this has challenged my world view as i always though that achieving goals similar to that was near impossible, now i have a different approach to things such as big goals.

Compare and contrast their worldview with the prevailing worldview of their own culture at the time?

Alice Paul's worldview was that women should have equal rights. Everyone else's worldview in America was that men were the ones with power, they could vote, they could work and they earn significantly more money. Alice's worldview and America's worldview are significantly different to each other and Alice challenged the rest of americas world view with the idea of women voting, this would have been seen as such a shock by the men of America as they were too used to owning the power. Alice believed in fairness and equality, most women in America wouldn't have even considered that they could vote or the ones that had would never have dreamt of speaking about it, let alone protesting about it. Alice took it on herself to make a change to that and decided to speak up. I believe that this is apart of her world view, when others don't want to speak, speak for them. It wasn't faith necessarily faith that made her do this, it was her personal decision and how passionate she was about it. Faith would have helper her to strive and do this but her original decision to protest wasn't based on any form of faith.

Alice Paul's work has encouraged an open minded view to people all across the world. The reason she has helped encourage people to have an opened minded view is just because something like the government has control over certain things, she has shown that it is still able to be questioned rather than nothing being done about it if it's an issue. Also Alice Paul never wanted to be a person that has a lot of power, although she became a leader she never wanted to rule the world as such. Alice Paul was just extremely passionate about women having equal rights. Alice worked extremely hard and pushing herself to the limit in order for women to have a better life and eventually all of her hard work paid off. What Alice Paul did challenged the government and could have caused her serious consequences

On the 3rd of march 1913 over five thousand African American women marched on the streets of Washington due to the women's suffrage parade. This shows that she risked those women getting punished as she truly believed that it was for the better of society.
(Armstrong.edu, 2019)
